Choose the gold Casio A1000MGN-9ER for a dressier look and the flexibility of both a NATO strap and mesh bracelet; choose the black A1000RCB-1ER if sapphire crystal and an all-black Rag & Bone design matter more. In Jorg Weppelink’s November 15, 2022 hands-on review, both share the same compact case dimensions, but differ in materials, configuration, weight and historical price.

Which A1000 has the better look?

A1000MGN-9ER: gold with two wearing options

The gold model has a more conspicuous, jewelry-like finish. It arrives on a black NATO strap with gold hardware, while the included quick-release mesh bracelet gives it a more coordinated, dressier appearance. The ability to swap between them is its clearest practical styling advantage.

A1000RCB-1ER: a stealthier collaboration

The black A1000RCB-1ER keeps the case and five-link bracelet dark, with turquoise lettering and Rag & Bone branding providing the contrast. It is the more unified, understated choice. The collaboration does not change the basic A1000 dimensions reported in the review, but its finish, crystal and bracelet distinguish it from the gold model.

Weppelink connected the A1000’s retro design language to Casio’s F-91W and A-164W. That is the reviewer’s visual comparison rather than a claim that these models share the same construction or specifications.

Materials, fit and everyday functions

Both watches measure 39.6 × 38.0 × 7.3 mm, with the review listing height, width and depth in that order. The gold watch’s 55 g figure is specifically for it on the NATO strap; the black watch is listed at 99 g. Those figures suggest a marked difference in how they may feel on the wrist, though the review does not provide a controlled wear or weighing test.

The crystal is a notable material distinction: mineral glass on the gold version and sapphire on the black collaboration. The review specifies the ion-plated stainless-steel finishes and bracelet configurations, but does not report durability testing or establish water-resistance performance.

For the gold model, the review identifies Casio module 3479 and lists time, day, date, a daily alarm, stopwatch and Super Illuminator LED backlight. It reports accuracy of ±30 seconds per month and an official battery life of three years, using a CR1616 lithium cell. These are specifications stated in the 2022 review, not independently verified measurements.

What the original review says about quality

Weppelink preferred the gold model on its NATO strap for its appearance, but was more impressed by the black collaboration’s overall quality and execution. He summed up his personal reaction to the A1000RCB-1ER this way: “I was seriously impressed by this piece.” That is an individual hands-on impression, not a controlled comparison or independent durability assessment.

Price and availability: treat 2022 figures as historical

The review listed European prices of €179 for the A1000MGN-9ER and €249 for the A1000RCB-1ER on November 15, 2022. It also said the black model was sold out on Rag & Bone’s website at that time but remained available in Europe. Neither those prices nor that stock report establishes what the watches cost or where they are available now; check a current listing for the exact model reference before buying.
