The second-generation Monta Skyquest is a 40.7 mm mechanical GMT with a rotating 24-hour bezel, a shorter 47.4 mm lug-to-lug span than its predecessor, and a bracelet that reviewers particularly liked for its articulation and adjustment. Its reported movement identification differs between two 2022 reviews, so buyers should confirm the caliber for the specific watch. The impressions below are attributed to the reviewers; they are not a claim of independent hands-on testing.
What changed in the 2022 Skyquest?
Monta introduced the Skyquest in 2018. The 2022 second generation kept the case width close to the original but revised the design and shortened the case length. Michael Stockton’s Fratello review describes larger indices, a straighter GMT hand, a date display at 6 o’clock that integrates more cleanly with the dial, and a wider, bolder bezel. The newer case is listed at 47.4 mm long, compared with 49 mm in Worn & Wound’s 2018 first-generation review.
For the 2022 watch, Fratello reports a screw-down crown, aluminum rotating 24-hour bezel, sapphire crystal, and 300 m water resistance. Thomas Calara’s 2022 Worn & Wound first-look also lists 300 m resistance and specifies 316L steel, sapphire with seven layers of anti-reflective coating, and BGW9 lume. These are published specifications, not evidence of a dive test.
2022 dimensions and reported specifications
| Specification | 2022 second-generation reports |
|---|---|
| Case width | 40.7 mm (Fratello and Worn & Wound, 2022) |
| Lug-to-lug / case length | 47.4 mm (Fratello and Worn & Wound, 2022) |
| Thickness | 11.8 mm (Fratello and Worn & Wound, 2022) |
| Water resistance | 300 m (Fratello and Worn & Wound, 2022); do not read this as a reported activity-specific test |
| Movement identification | Sellita SW330 (Fratello); MONTA Caliber M-23 (Worn & Wound). The reports differ. |
| Crystal, material, lume | 316L steel, sapphire with seven-layer anti-reflective coating, and BGW9 lume (Worn & Wound, 2022) |
Generation matters when comparing dimensions. Worn & Wound’s 2018 first-generation review lists 40.7 mm width, 49 mm length, 11.9 mm thickness, and 20 mm lug width. Those older figures should not be substituted for the second generation’s 47.4 mm length and 11.8 mm thickness.

Which movement does the 2022 Skyquest use?
The two contemporary sources name different movements: Fratello identifies the movement in its watch as a Sellita SW330, while Worn & Wound lists MONTA Caliber M-23. The available reporting does not establish whether the labels reflect different references or another distinction. Confirm the caliber for the exact reference with MONTA or the seller rather than assuming either label applies to every 2022 Skyquest.
Is the Skyquest a caller or flyer GMT?
Fratello describes its cited SW330 configuration as a caller GMT. Its 24-hour hand is set through the crown, while the local 12-hour hand does not jump independently when changing time zones. A flyer GMT works the other way for travel: the local 12-hour hand jumps to the new local time. The Skyquest’s rotating 24-hour bezel can be used to reference an additional time zone alongside the hands.

- Original Vostok watch from the factory warehouse in Chistopol city
- Mechanical (movement 2426.12), self-winding, sideward second hand
- Additional hand for GMT time. Water Resistant 200m (20 BAR)
- Shockproof, anti-shock device balance node. Luminous dial and hands
- Bidirectional rotating bezel. Fully wound watch should run for at least 31 hours
Neither setting style is automatically best for everyone. A frequent traveler who wants to change local time in one-hour increments may prefer a jumping local-hour hand; someone who mainly tracks another zone from home may be satisfied with an independently set 24-hour hand. Because the movement naming differs between the cited reports, verify the actual reference and setting behavior before purchase if this distinction is decisive.
How does the 2022 Skyquest wear?
Michael Stockton said the watch wore comfortably during his reported multi-week wear, and highlighted the bracelet’s articulation and quick adjustment. He praised the clasp finishing but found its counter-locking piece tight to snap shut. These are his impressions, not a standardized fit assessment.

Thomas Calara likewise praised the articulating links and three-position quick adjustment, while noting that the clasp required force to lock. He found the 47.4 mm length more compact on his narrower wrist than the earlier case length. Fit still depends on wrist shape and personal preference: compare the 47.4 mm lug-to-lug span, thickness, and bracelet sizing, and try it on if possible.

Fratello’s reviewer found the BGW9 Super-LumiNova bright and legible in darkness and preferred the aluminum bezel’s less glossy appearance. Those are reviewer judgments rather than measured brightness or wear testing. The bezel provides the 24-hour scale needed to read another time zone, but readers should consider whether its look and operation suit how they plan to use the watch.

The 2022 coverage reports 300 m water resistance and a screw-down crown. That rating is a specification, not proof in the cited articles of performance under a particular diving protocol. MONTA’s own design page says the Skyquest bezel assembly shares two patents with the Oceanking; that is the manufacturer’s claim.
Is the Skyquest a replacement for a Rolex or Omega?
Stockton asks, “Is this watch a replacement for a Rolex or Omega? Probably not.” The more useful way to judge the Skyquest is on its own terms: GMT setting behavior, wrist fit, bracelet comfort and adjustment, bezel readability, and the specifications you need. The cited coverage does not establish a direct equivalence to those watches.

The prices reported in 2022 are historical, not current quotes. Worn & Wound listed a $2,190 preorder price and $2,435 expected full retail; Fratello reported $2,435. MONTA currently provides a Skyquest collection page, but the cited material does not establish live stock, current price, or which variants are available. MONTA’s brand page states that direct purchases include a two-year international warranty; confirm current terms and whether they apply to your seller and market.
For strap shoppers, the 20 mm lug width and optional rubber strap are documented in the 2018 first-generation review only. They do not establish compatibility with every second-generation Skyquest or aftermarket end-link system. Confirm the exact generation, lug width, spring-bar arrangement, and end-link fit before ordering a strap.
