The Vulcain Skindiver Nautique 38mm pairs the compact proportions of a 1960s dive watch with modern construction: the 2023 launch model has a 38mm steel case, ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal and a stated 200m water-resistance rating. It is a contemporary re-edition, not a reproduction of the original: the vintage Nautique described in launch coverage was 36mm and hand-wound, while the modern watch is automatic. This is a buyer-oriented overview of the launch model and the broader collection now listed by Vulcain, not a report of personal wear or testing.
What is the Vulcain Skindiver Nautique 38mm?
Vulcain introduced the modern Skindiver Nautique in January 2023, drawing on a Nautique diver from the 1960s. Fratello identifies the vintage reference P4322A as a 36mm hand-wound watch powered by caliber 1686; the modern re-edition grows to 38mm and uses an automatic movement. The dial retains the Nautique name, though launch coverage also calls the watch the Skindiver. This line is distinct from Vulcain’s Nautical and Nautical Heritage alarm-diver family.
“Skin diver” describes a compact, recreational-oriented dive-watch style in the launch coverage; it is not a formal certification category. For the 2023 model, Brice Goulard of Monochrome Watches characterized the approach as “a classic yet effective recipe involving the re-edition of a vintage model with minor updates to enhance use and performance.” That is an editorial description, not a manufacturer claim or test result.
What are the 2023 launch-model specifications?
The following specifications refer to the black and blue versions introduced in January 2023. They should not be assumed to apply to every later Nautique variant.

How do the size and design translate for a buyer?
The 38mm diameter and 43.8mm lug-to-lug measurement describe a relatively compact footprint on paper. The 12.2mm height is a separate fit consideration: diameter alone does not tell you how a watch will sit beneath a cuff or feel on your wrist. If possible, try the exact reference on; otherwise compare all three measurements with a watch you already find comfortable.
The launch design keeps the dial restrained: two colors, no date window, luminous hands and markers, and a contrasting 60-minute bezel. The blue dial has vertical brushing; the black is matte. The ceramic bezel insert and sapphire crystal are modern materials, while the steel case’s brushed and polished surfaces provide the vintage-inspired outline with contemporary finishing.

What versions and prices does Vulcain list now?
Vulcain’s official Nautique collection page, accessed October 8, 2026, listed standard blue, black, purple, orange and brown configurations at CHF 1,490. The page also showed other listings, including bronze and gold models and a sold-out salmon/beige configuration. A limited meteorite edition was listed from CHF 1,790. These are live manufacturer listings, not a universal retail quote; availability and displayed prices can change. Check the exact model and checkout price before buying.
The CHF 1,490 figure was also the 2023 launch price reported by Monochrome Watches. That historical price does not establish the present price of every configuration. Later versions may differ in material, dial, movement, dimensions, strap or price; check the specifications attached to the exact reference rather than carrying over the launch-model details.

What should you check before buying?
- Match the reference to its specifications. Confirm the dial, case material, diameter, thickness, movement, strap or bracelet and stated water resistance on the exact product listing. The 2023 launch specifications are specific to VUL-DI-001 and VUL-DI-002, not a guarantee for all current Nautiques.
- Assess fit using more than diameter. Compare case diameter, 43.8mm launch-model lug-to-lug and 12.2mm launch-model height with a watch that fits you well. Those measurements come from 2023 launch coverage and may not describe later variants.
- Confirm accessory compatibility. Vulcain’s official strap catalog lists a Skindiver category with black and brown leather straps and a steel bracelet labeled 38.3mm. The catalog does not establish that every accessory fits every 38mm Nautique reference. Ask Vulcain or a dealer to confirm fit for your exact watch before ordering.
- Check current price and availability. Collection listings can change, and the displayed model may not be the same configuration as the launch watch. Verify the exact reference and final price with the seller.
How does it compare with other vintage-style divers?
Monochrome names the Oris Divers Sixty-Five, Longines Legend Diver, Yema Superman and Seiko 62MAS interpretations as alternatives in the broader market. The launch coverage does not provide comparable current-reference specifications for those watches, so a meaningful head-to-head depends on identifying the exact model being considered. Compare case diameter and lug-to-lug, thickness, movement and reserve, bezel and dial legibility, water-resistance rating, strap or bracelet options, fidelity to the historical design and current price. Avoid comparing the Nautique’s launch specifications with a different or later reference from another line.
