The original Timex S1 Automatic by Giorgio Galli is a 41 mm mechanical watch with a layered, skeletonized case, a Miyota 9039 movement and 20 mm lugs. In Fratello’s hands-on review, Tomas Rosputinsky found the case rewarding to explore and the rotor distinctly audible. Those observations—and the original watch’s K1 hardened glass—belong to the 41 mm model, not Timex’s later 38 mm S1 versions with sapphire crystal.
What the original Timex S1 Automatic is
Fratello published its hands-on article on January 8, 2020. It identifies the watch as the Timex S1 Automatic by Giorgio Galli, designed by Galli, with a metal-injection-molded 316L stainless-steel skeleton case. Its visual character comes from the case architecture as much as from the dial: the layered components leave the construction on display, while a see-through caseback exposes the automatic movement.
Galli described the design direction this way: “The S1 is a bridge between classic watchmaking and industrial design.” A jewel on the dial is not merely decorative, according to the designer: “The jewel on the dial represents the automatic movement inside the watch.” Both quotes are reported in Fratello’s January 8, 2020 article.

What the hands-on review says about wearing it
Fratello reviewer Tomas Rosputinsky says Timex could not provide a review sample, so he bought the watch himself and wore it casually for two weeks. He found the multi-component case engaging: its construction and details gave him things to keep looking at rather than reading as a simple, flat-sided case.

- Please be attention that screen protector is flexible plastic film, Not Tempered Glass.
- TPU material with smooth surface, keep you a high touch sensitive and fast fingerprint recognition.
- 4H Hardness can effectively resist daily scratches.
- Self-healing properties enable the film to recover from minor scratches and keep your screen brand new.
- Dust-free,bubble free,one-push super easily installation.
He also reported a pronounced metallic whirring from the rotor. Rosputinsky says he enjoyed hearing it as a regular reminder that he was wearing a mechanical watch. That is one wearer’s subjective impression, not a guarantee that the noise will be equally noticeable—or welcome—to everyone.
Do not confuse the original 41 mm watch with later 38 mm S1s
Timex’s later regional product pages describe 38 mm S1 models with sapphire crystal. That is a meaningful version difference: the original Fratello article specifies a 41 mm case and K1 hardened glass. One version’s crystal, dimensions, strap width, price or availability should not be carried over to another.

Which size and strap details matter
Choose by case size, not just the S1 name
The original 41 mm model and the later 38 mm listings are not interchangeable descriptions of one unchanged watch. If case size is important to fit, check the exact reference before buying: the original is listed at 41 mm, while the Timex pages cited here are for 38 mm models.

Confirm lug width before ordering a strap
The original model’s listed lug width is 20 mm. Timex also lists an S1-branded 20 mm soft synthetic rubber strap, reference TW7C82700, on its EU site; the strap listing is not evidence that every S1 takes that width. In fact, the EU black 38 mm TW2V70300 listing specifies an 18 mm band width. Match the strap to the watch’s exact reference and verify the listing before purchase: Timex EU’s TW7C82700 strap listing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Timex Giorgio Galli S1 worth considering?
The strongest case for the original S1 is its distinctive physical design: an industrial, multi-part case, visible mechanics and an automatic movement, rather than a conventional minimalist watch. Fratello’s reviewer found the case details compelling and personally liked the audible rotor. Those are useful cues if you enjoy watches that invite close inspection and do not mind a mechanical sound that may be noticeable.

- 9H Hardness can effectively resist daily scratches.
- Dust-free,bubble free,one-push super easily installation.
- Oleophobic Screen Coating protects against sweat and oil residue from fingerprints.
- 0.33mm thick keep the screen responsive to every touch and tap.
- Extreme clarity preserves the original screen brightness and definition, ensuring viewing experience.
The buying decision also depends on securing the correct version. The 41 mm model’s published specification set includes K1 hardened glass and 20 mm lugs; later 38 mm regional listings specify sapphire crystal, and at least one specifies 18 mm width. The prices in the available listings are not like-for-like current quotes: €450 is the original article’s 2020 figure, while €475 and £425 are later regional page snapshots accessed October 8, 2026, with different stock statuses.
