The Sinn 103 Sa B E takes the familiar 103 chronograph and gives it a distinctive blue-and-ivory look, with a display back and a reported 500-piece production limit. In Robert-Jan Broer’s April 2018 hands-on, the appeal is chiefly visual: the core specifications remain close to those of the basic 103, while the dial, bezel and caseback make this edition feel different.
What makes the Sinn 103 Sa B E different?
The edition’s signature is its blue sunburst dial paired with a blue bezel. Ivory-colored hour markers and hands give the face a warmer contrast than the classic black 103. Broer describes the dial effect as “just mind-blowing,” a personal reaction rather than an objective measure of quality. The watch also has sapphire crystals on both the front and back, so the movement can be seen through the display caseback.
Those details distinguish the Sa B E without changing the basic character of the 103. The 2018 hands-on article says its main specifications are those of the basic model. The differences that matter most are therefore aesthetic and configurational: blue instead of black, ivory-tone luminous accents, a visible movement, and the edition designation.

For a buyer deciding by specifications alone, Broer’s 2018 view was that the standard 103 could offer better value. That is a period-specific opinion, not a current price comparison. The Sa B E makes more sense for someone who particularly wants its blue-and-ivory design and display back.

Reported specifications
These figures are reported in the April 2018 hands-on article; they are not independent measurements or test results. Jura Watches’ listing independently repeats the 41 mm diameter, 200 m water resistance and Valjoux 7750 movement for reference 103.171 Sa B E.

What does “limited to 500” mean?
Broer reports that the movement’s weight mass is marked “Eine von 500,” meaning “One of 500.” The marking is not a unique individual number: it identifies the watch as part of the edition rather than specifying its place in a numbered sequence. Broer also cautions that the inscription alone does not establish how many examples were actually produced. Treat 500 as the edition’s reported limit, not independently audited production data.

Strap options and historical pricing
In April 2018, Broer reported a retail price of €2,590 for the leather-strap version. He said a stainless-steel bracelet added €170 and a silicon strap added €165 at that time. These are historical figures, not current prices; the final price depended on the selected strap or bracelet.
Jura Watches identifies the blue-leather version as reference 103.171 Sa B E. Its product page confirms a retailer listing, but does not establish current stock, current asking price or present-day authorized status.

Should you choose the Sa B E?
The Sa B E is the more distinctive choice if the blue dial and bezel, ivory-tone accents and movement display are the reasons you want a 103. If you are choosing strictly by the platform’s core specifications, the 2018 article gives little reason to prefer this edition over the basic model, and Broer considered the standard 103 the stronger value at the prices then available. Current availability and pricing have not been verified, so a present-day comparison requires checking live listings.
