The Traska Commuter 34 and 38 share a restrained everyday-watch design, but differ in fit, bracelet adjustment, and available date configuration. Traska lists the 34 (Ref. 7232) at $630 and the 38 (Ref. 8233) at $700; both are specified with hardened 316L stainless steel, sapphire crystal, a screw-down crown, and 100m water resistance. Choose between them by considering wrist presence and the exact bracelet and dial configuration, not diameter alone.

These are manufacturer specifications and research-time prices, not independent test results or evergreen prices. Exact current lug-to-lug, thickness, and lug-width measurements for both references were not verified in the available research. A 2023 hands-on report gives historical measurements for the launch-era 38.5mm model only; do not apply those figures to both current references.
What changed in the Commuter collection?
Traska’s history says the 38mm began as a limited 2023 release and later became permanent, while the 34mm returned in 2025. Current fifth-generation references include the 34 Ref. 7232 and 38 Ref. 8233, alongside the 36 Ref. 3205. Traska lists added underside anti-reflective coating, upgraded BGW9 Grade A lume, and quick-release spring bars as generation updates.
Traska says the upgraded lume is 52% brighter than its standard grade after 10 hours in darkness. That is the manufacturer’s claim, not an independently measured comparison. Launch prices were $580 for the 34 and $635 for the 38, while the current U.S. collection displays $630 and $700 respectively. Check the product page for current pricing and availability.

Two sizes, two personalities
The Commuter 34: compact and vintage-leaning
The 34 is the compact option for someone who prefers traditionally sized watches or wants less wrist presence. Do not choose by wrist circumference alone: case shape, bracelet end links, and personal preference all affect fit. If possible, compare it with a watch you already enjoy wearing.
The Commuter 38: more presence without becoming oversized
The 38 offers more visual presence. Its bracelet is wider and its clasp adjustment is tool-less, according to Traska’s product information. The 38 is also offered in both no-date and date configurations, so confirm the dial and SKU before purchase.
Both are positioned as everyday watches rather than dedicated dive watches. Traska specifies 100m water resistance and a screw-down crown; those specifications are not independent test findings. Neither the minimalist design nor the rating alone makes this a specialized underwater instrument.
Case, crystal, and hardened steel
Traska specifies hardened 316L stainless steel for the case and bracelet, and sapphire crystal with underside anti-reflective treatment on the current generation. These are manufacturer descriptions. No independent controlled comparison of scratch resistance, water resistance, or the current references’ dimensions was found in this research.

Hardened steel should not be described as scratch-proof. Traska’s lume statement and material specifications likewise should not be presented as independent test results. The raised, double-domed crystal styling contributes to the Commuter’s vintage-leaning appearance, but exact crystal details should be checked against the selected reference’s product page.
Movement and date options
The Commuter 34 product page specifies the no-date Miyota 9039. Traska lists the 38 with no-date 9039 and date-equipped 9015 variants. Verify the exact color and SKU: not every Commuter configuration uses the same movement or has the same dial layout.

For the 9-series movements described on its product pages, Traska lists 28,800 beats per hour and a 42-hour power reserve. The brand says it regulates movements in four positions and that the 9 series typically runs between -10 and +20 seconds per day after regulation. Treat that as the manufacturer’s typical stated range, not a guarantee for an individual watch. Fratello reviewer Jorg Weppelink reported single-digit deviation on his launch-era samples; that is his experience, not a promise for current units.
The bracelet and adjustment matter
The bracelet is a meaningful point of comparison. Traska lists a 19-to-15mm taper and five micro-adjustments for the 34, compared with a 20-to-16mm taper and six-position tool-less clasp adjustment for the 38. Traska also identifies quick-release spring bars as a fifth-generation feature. Check the individual product page for the selected reference and configuration.

- Check the product information for the bracelet’s adjustment method and hardware before starting.
- Protect the watch and bracelet with a soft cloth, and use an appropriate tool for the fasteners.
- Work carefully and do not force a fastener that does not seat properly.
- If you are unsure, ask a watchmaker or jeweler to adjust it.
The 34’s 19mm and the 38’s 20mm bracelet widths are useful starting points when looking for straps, but check fit for the exact reference and strap construction before ordering. Quick-release bars make changes easier according to Traska; they do not guarantee that every strap will fit.
Which size should you buy?

|---|---|
| Prefer a more compact look | Want more wrist presence |
| Prefer a no-date dial | Want to choose between date and no-date configurations |

When deciding online, compare the watch with a familiar watch that fits you well, including how its bracelet and end links sit. The current dimensions of both references were not verified in the research used for this article, so avoid relying on unconfirmed lug-to-lug or thickness figures.
Price and availability

What the Commuter 34 and 38 do well
- Offer distinct size choices within the same restrained design family.
- Use manufacturer-specified sapphire crystal, hardened 316L steel, and 100m water resistance.
- Give the 38 a wider bracelet and six-position tool-less clasp adjustment.
- Offer different movement and date configurations in the 38; verify the selected SKU.
- Use quick-release spring bars as a fifth-generation feature, according to Traska.
Where the Commuter is less convincing
- The understated dial may feel too plain to buyers seeking a distinctive design.
- The bracelet widths and adjustment systems differ between sizes.
- Current prices are higher than the reported launch prices.
- Exact current dimensions for both references were not verified in the available research.
- Manufacturer specifications and claims should not be mistaken for independent tests.
Verdict
The Traska Commuter 34 and 38 are best compared as different fits and configurations, not simply as the same watch in two diameters. The 34 is the compact, no-date option described by Traska’s product page, with five bracelet micro-adjustments. The 38 has a wider bracelet, tool-less clasp adjustment, and both date and no-date variants.
