Hands-On With the TUDOR Pelagos 39: A Smaller, More Versatile Diver

The TUDOR Pelagos 39 is the more compact, polished-feeling branch of the Pelagos line: a 39 mm titanium dive watch with a sunray dial and bezel, a 200 m water-resistance rating, and the same practical mechanical-watch credentials that make it useful beyond the water. Its smaller proportions and brighter finish distinguish it from the larger, more overtly tool-focused Pelagos models, but do not make it a specialist saturation-diving instrument.

Here is what the Pelagos 39 is like on the wrist, what its specifications mean, and how to judge its current price of $5,625 on Tudor’s displayed-market product page.

What is the TUDOR Pelagos 39?

The current model is the TUDOR Pelagos 39, reference M25407N-0001. Tudor lists a satin-finished Grade 2 titanium case measuring 39 mm across, 11.8 mm thick, with a 21 mm lug width. The dial is black with a sunray finish; the unidirectional titanium bezel has a sunray-finished ceramic insert and luminous material. Red Pelagos lettering adds a small contrast on the dial. Tudor’s current product listing supplies the specifications and displayed-market price.

The design keeps the technical, lightweight character associated with the Pelagos name, while the sunray surfaces give it a more reflective and refined look than a fully matte tool watch. That change is a matter of taste: the finish may make the watch feel more versatile to some owners, while those who prefer the larger Pelagos’s restrained, utilitarian appearance may find it less purpose-built-looking.

How does the Pelagos 39 wear?

At 39 mm, it is smaller than the 42 mm Pelagos discussed in launch-period hands-on coverage. Fratello described the compact model as more wearable, and noted its reported 47 mm lug-to-lug span. Those are reviewer impressions rather than a guarantee of fit: wrist shape, preferred proportions and how tightly a bracelet is worn all matter.

Hodinkee reported the same 47 mm lug-to-lug measurement and a weight of 107 g on an unsized bracelet. Its author was able to handle the sample for about an hour, but did not size the bracelet or try the rubber strap. Treat those observations as a snapshot, not an extended wear test. Hodinkee’s launch-era hands-on report provides that context.

  • Titanium Bracelet with Steel Folding Clasp and Safety Catch and Bracelet Extension System
  • Titanium Unidirectional Rotatable Bezel with Ceramic Matte Black Disc and 60 Minute Scale with Beige Luminescent Coating

Titanium is a practical part of the watch’s everyday proposition, and the relatively compact case helps distinguish it from larger divers. The 21 mm lug width is worth noting when considering replacement straps; the included rubber strap means an alternative is not necessary to switch away from the bracelet.

What are the Pelagos 39’s specifications?

Specification TUDOR Pelagos 39
Reference M25407N-0001
Case 39 mm, Grade 2 titanium, satin-finished
Thickness and lug width 11.8 mm thick; 21 mm lug width
Crystal and dial Sapphire crystal; black sunray satin-finished dial with luminous ceramic-composite applied hour markers
Bezel Unidirectional rotating titanium bezel with sunray-finished ceramic insert and luminous material
Water resistance 200 m / 660 ft
Movement Manufacture Calibre MT5400, automatic with bidirectional rotor, COSC-certified
Power reserve Approximately 70 hours, according to Tudor
Bracelet and strap Titanium three-link bracelet with T-fit clasp and diver extension; complimentary black rubber strap with pin buckle and diver extension

These are Tudor’s published product specifications, not independent measurements of every individual watch. Tudor also states that its fully assembled-watch accuracy target is -2 to +4 seconds per day. That is a Tudor tolerance claim; COSC certification refers to the movement’s certification standard, for which Tudor says the permitted average daily variation under test is -4/+6 seconds. Tudor’s Pelagos 39 page describes the movement and its accuracy figures.

Is the Pelagos 39 a real dive watch?

Yes. Tudor rates it to 200 m / 660 ft and equips it with a screw-down crown and a unidirectional timing bezel. Those are meaningful dive-watch specifications in a compact daily-wear watch. The rating is a published water-resistance specification, not a recommendation to use a watch without appropriate knowledge and care.

The important distinction is specialization. Hands-on comparisons note that the Pelagos 39 has no helium escape valve, unlike features associated with more specialized tool-watch configurations in the wider Pelagos family. It should not be presented as the equivalent of a saturation-diving instrument. Readers who prioritize the larger Pelagos’s more specialized tool orientation should compare the models on those specific needs rather than treating the 39 as a smaller version with every feature intact.

What comes with the bracelet and strap?

The Pelagos 39 includes a titanium bracelet with Tudor’s T-fit clasp and a black rubber strap. The clasp offers five tool-free adjustment positions over an 8 mm range, plus a 25 mm diver extension. Tudor says the rubber strap extension can lengthen it by up to 110 mm. Those adjustment options make the package more adaptable to changes in wrist size and wearing conditions without requiring a tool. Tudor lists the T-fit and extension details.

How does it compare with other Tudor dive watches?

The Pelagos 39 sits between a compact everyday diver and the more specialized Pelagos identity. Its central trade-off is clear: a smaller titanium case and more decorative sunray treatment, with a 200 m rating, but without the helium escape valve noted in comparisons of larger Pelagos models.

Choose the Pelagos 39 if… Consider another Tudor diver if…
You want a 39 mm titanium case, 200 m water resistance, and an included bracelet and rubber strap. You specifically want the larger Pelagos family’s more specialized tool-watch feature set.
You like sunray finishing and want a watch that can look less strictly utilitarian. You prefer a more overtly matte, instrument-like appearance.
You value a tool-free clasp adjustment and compact proportions. You want a steel, vintage-inspired smaller diver; the Black Bay Fifty-Eight is a relevant alternative to compare.

Fratello characterized the Pelagos 39 as adjacent to, rather than a replacement for, the established Pelagos identity. That is a useful way to frame the choice: it brings the name into a smaller and more visually polished format without making every version of the Pelagos redundant. Fratello’s launch-period hands-on review discusses that shift in character.

How much does the Pelagos 39 cost?

Tudor’s current product page displays a suggested retail price of $5,625 for its shown market. Tudor reserves the right to change prices and models, so this is a time-sensitive, market-specific reference rather than a guaranteed transaction price; check local pricing with Tudor or an authorized retailer.

Earlier prices are not directly interchangeable with that current figure. Hodinkee recorded a $4,400 launch price in 2022, while Tudor’s launch-era technical sheet listed CHF 4,200 including VAT for Switzerland. These figures refer to different dates, currencies and markets, not a like-for-like global price comparison. Tudor’s 2022 technical sheet gives the historical Swiss figure.

At the current displayed-market price, the value question turns on whether the compact titanium case, movement, bracelet adjustment, included rubber option and 200 m rating fit your priorities. It is less compelling if the main reason to buy a Pelagos is the larger model’s specialist tool-watch character, or if you prefer a steel vintage-style diver.
