What the Defy Revival A3643 is
Zenith dates the launch of the Defy collection to 1969 and presents this watch as a revival of the original A3643 design. The modern model’s official reference is 03.A3642.670/01.M3642. It is distinct from the Defy Revival A3642 announced in 2022 and the A3691 from 2023; those are related models, not alternate names for this watch. Zenith’s announcement and its official product page identify the revival and its specifications.
Design: angular case, restrained dial
Case and bezel
The 37 mm stainless-steel case has an octagonal outline, sharpened by a bezel with 14 sides. That geometry gives the watch a more architectural character than the silver dial’s relatively restrained color might suggest. Zenith describes the case and bezel as drawing on the original Defy design.
Dial and hands
The dial is silver-toned with a sunray pattern. Zenith highlights glossy black recesses, faceted markers and hands, and an orange segment on the central seconds hand. The orange detail is a small contrast point rather than a change to the dial’s overall silver-and-black palette.

Ladder bracelet
The stainless-steel ladder bracelet completes the period-inspired look. Zenith says the original bracelet was designed exclusively for the brand by Gay Frères in 1969. Its open construction is a defining visual feature, though the available specifications do not establish how this modern bracelet feels or wears on the wrist.
Movement and functions
The watch uses Zenith’s automatic Elite 670 movement. The manufacturer specifies a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and approximately 50 hours of power reserve. Functions are hours, minutes, central seconds and a date displayed at 4:30. Zenith’s product listing provides the movement details.

Caseback and water resistance
Unlike the solid back of the historical watch as described by Zenith, the revival has a sapphire display back showing the movement and an openworked Zenith star rotor. Zenith’s pressroom lists water resistance at 30 ATM. That is a manufacturer specification; it does not by itself establish suitability for a particular water activity. Consult Zenith’s current guidance for intended use.
Price and availability
Zenith’s pressroom lists the A3643 at 6,900 CHF, 7,900 EUR and 7,800 USD. These are the regional figures shown on the manufacturer page consulted in 2026, not a guarantee of today’s price in every market. Zenith says the watch is available through its physical and online boutiques and authorized retailers worldwide, but that statement does not confirm current local stock. Check the pressroom announcement and local retailer for current pricing and availability.

Who should consider it?
The A3643 is most compelling for someone drawn to Zenith’s late-1960s design language: a compact 37 mm case, pronounced geometric bezel, and distinctive ladder bracelet. The silver dial keeps the overall presentation less assertive than the case outline, while the orange seconds-hand accent adds a small period-style highlight. The display back is a modern contrast with the solid back of the historical model.
Published specifications cannot answer practical questions such as bracelet comfort, clasp feel, on-wrist weight, finishing in person or real-world timekeeping. Those are matters to assess on the actual watch rather than infer from its design or technical listing.
