This is a specification-led look at the exact reference; it does not claim independent wear or performance testing.
What reference H701.211 is
Hanhart describes the 417 ES 1954 Flyback Reverse Panda 39 mm as a stainless-steel chronograph with a black main dial and two white subdials. The model name identifies the 39 mm case and reverse-panda color layout; the product page specifies SKU H701.211. Its bidirectional, continuously rotating fluted bezel has a red insert. Movement and flyback operation
Hanhart specifies a hand-wound Sellita AMT5100 M movement with column-wheel chronograph control. The listed functions include small seconds, central chronograph seconds, a 30-minute counter, hacking seconds and flyback. Hanhart gives a frequency of 4 Hz, 23 jewels and a 58-hour power reserve after full winding; the reserve is a published specification, not a separately measured result.
Flyback is intended to let the wearer reset a running timing operation and immediately start a new one with a single push. That is useful when timing consecutive intervals without pausing to stop, reset and restart a conventional chronograph. The description concerns the function’s intended operation, not a test of this example.

Hanhart says the minute and seconds hands are bent at their tips to reduce parallax errors. The screwed-down caseback carries a serial number and historical logo and incorporates the antimagnetic protection. These are claims and design details stated by the manufacturer, rather than observations from an independent inspection. See Hanhart’s full specification.
How it differs from other 417 ES versions
39 mm versus 42 mm
Hanhart offers the 417 ES family in 39 mm and 42 mm cases. Diameter alone does not describe the fit: the 39 mm reference measures 46 mm lug-to-lug and 13.3 mm thick including its crystal. Compare those dimensions with a watch you already find comfortable, rather than treating 39 mm as a complete fit prediction.

Reverse panda versus panda
This reference has a black main dial with white subdials. Hanhart also offers panda-dial versions, as well as 42 mm family variants. Confirm H701.211 and the dial treatment on the listing or invoice if the reverse-panda layout is essential.
Flyback versus a standard chronograph
The specified movement in H701.211 has a column wheel and flyback function. Do not assume every watch in the broader 417 ES family has the same movement or flyback feature; check the specifications for the exact reference being considered.

Historical context
Hanhart says the original 417 was made as a pilot chronograph for the newly founded German armed forces and supplied for almost ten years. The company presents the 39 mm 417 ES 1954 as matching the size of a historic design model in its museum. This is the manufacturer’s account of the model’s history, not an independent assessment of provenance or collectability. Hanhart’s product narrative.
Strap and accessory options
The listed strap is black calfskin with white stitching and an Alcantara lining; the technical data gives a 20 mm lug width. Hanhart separately lists a 417 ES 39 mm steel bracelet with micro-adjustment and a 20 mm measurement marked “new lugs,” plus a Pioneer/417 ES butterfly folding clasp for a leather strap. Those accessory listings do not establish compatibility with every watch or strap configuration. Confirm the fit with Hanhart or the seller before ordering a replacement strap, bracelet or clasp.

Price and availability: check the seller and region
When accessed in 2026, Hanhart’s product page listed the watch at €2,640 including VAT and showed “Sold out / Back soon.” At that time, German retailer flomp89 listed the exact reference H701.211 for €2,640 including 19% VAT and reported one unit in stock. The retailer stated that delivery was limited to mainland Germany.
