The available descriptions also disagree about its movement, so the exact version matters.
What the Helson Gauge 1000 is
OceanicTime described the Gauge 1000 in 2012 as a titanium-cased automatic dive watch. Its name and reported 1,000 m rating signal an extreme-depth specification, but that figure is a published product rating, not an independent test result for this article. The surviving sources do not establish current production or inventory.

Which movement does it use?
The available accounts identify two different automatic movements, and they do not explain the discrepancy:
- ETA 2824-2: OceanicTime’s 2012 report names a Swiss ETA 2824-2 with 25 jewels and a reported 40-hour power reserve.
- Miyota 90S5: A user-posted Helson Gauge 1000 resale listing dated January 30, 2024 specifies a Miyota 90S5.
The later listing is evidence of one described resale example, not authoritative documentation of a model-wide update. It could reflect a different configuration or a listing error; the sources do not settle which. If the movement affects your purchase, ask the seller to identify the exact watch and provide documentation or a clear movement photo rather than assuming either account applies to every example.

How large is it on the wrist?
A 47 mm diameter and 16.9 mm case height make this a substantial watch on paper. The thickness is likely to be as important as the diameter for sleeve clearance. The available specifications do not include lug-to-lug length, and there are no documented first-hand wrist impressions here, so those figures cannot establish how it will sit on a particular wrist.
If possible, compare the case dimensions with a watch you already own or try the Gauge on before buying. A 2024 resale listing gives a 24 mm strap width and mentions rubber and nylon strap examples. That is one seller’s description, not proof of strap width or hardware compatibility for every version; confirm the lug width and attachment details on the specific watch.

What the historical comparison says—and does not say
OceanicTime described the Gauge 1000’s predecessor as a fixed-bezel Gauge rated to 3,500 m and measuring 22.5 mm thick. This is a comparison reported in 2012, not evidence of a current Helson lineup or a present-day alternative available to buy.

The cited material does not confirm whether the Gauge 1000 is currently in production or available from Helson. The $899 figure belongs to the 2012 report and should not be treated as a current price. A resale listing from 2024 shows that an individual example was offered then, but does not establish present availability.

Helson’s current brand website describes a 12-month limited international warranty for its watches and directs customers with problems to contact the company. That general policy does not establish coverage for a particular older, second-hand or variant Gauge; confirm the terms with Helson before relying on them.

Before committing to a specific watch, check:
- The exact version and movement, since reports name both ETA 2824-2 and Miyota 90S5.
- Case condition and service history, especially for a used example.
- Whether the seller can substantiate the watch’s water-resistance condition. A published rating alone does not show that an older watch remains water-tight.
- The lug width, strap fit and buckle compatibility for that exact example.
- Current price, availability and any applicable warranty directly with the seller or Helson.
