At Geneva Watch Days 2020, the URWERK UR-T8 Raptor stood out not as a new standard production model, but as a unique, hand-engraved take on URWERK’s transformable watch. The UR-T8’s defining idea is literal: its titanium case pivots in its cradle to reveal—or hide—the unusual satellite-hour display.
What is the URWERK UR-T8?
URWERK describes the UR-T8 as its first transformable watch, created to mark the brand’s 20th anniversary. The brand’s official history places the model in 2017 and calls it “URWERK’s first transformable watch” (URWERK official history).
Rather than opening a conventional cover over a standard dial, the Grade 5 titanium case pivots within a cradle. Turn it one way to show the time; turn it over to conceal the display. It is a mechanical design gesture as much as a way of presenting the watch, not a claim of improved timekeeping.
How does the UR-T8 display time?
The UR-T8 replaces a conventional central hour hand with a satellite system. A rotating carrousel carries hour numerals in groups of four across a minute scale; the moving hour module indicates the hour while its position against the scale shows the minutes. The layout makes the passage of time a moving display rather than a glance at two hands.

That architecture is the point of the watch, but it also asks the wearer to read a less familiar indication than a conventional dial. The case’s ability to turn the display out of sight is a separate feature from the satellite time display itself.
What appeared at Geneva Watch Days 2020?
The Geneva Watch Days story focused on the UR-T8 Raptor, a unique piece engraved with a velociraptor by artist Johnny “King Nerd” Dowell. It was not presented as a newly launched standard UR-T8 edition. Rob Nudds of Fratello Watches wrote that “the UR-T8 … blew us away,” praising the articulated case and its perceived solidity; those are the writer’s impressions, not a published durability test (Fratello Watches, September 2, 2020).

The cited 2020 account identifies the Raptor as a unique piece. The sources do not establish its current owner, sale status, or price, so it should not be treated as currently available. The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie page lists CHF 100,000 as an indicated price, but gives no year; it is not a verified current offer or a confirmed Raptor price.
