The Toledano & Chan B/1.3r makes its case with an unusual combination: a compact, sculptural Grade 5 titanium case and a solid 18K yellow-gold ripple dial. At US$10,200 before taxes, it is best understood as a design-led luxury watch, not a movement showcase or a highly versatile sports watch. Whether it is worth the price depends on how much you value its distinctive shape, materials and finishing—and how little you need beyond timekeeping.
What is the Toledano & Chan B/1.3r?
The B/1.3r is a time-only automatic watch reviewed hands-on by Fratello on January 26, 2026. Its design pairs an angular, sculptural Grade 5 titanium case with a ripple-pattern dial made from solid 18K yellow gold. Brushed and matte-blasted surfaces give the dark case a contrasting texture, while the faceted sapphire crystal adds another geometric element.
Co-founder Phil Toledano told GQ that the solid gold dial against dark brushed titanium simply “looks beautiful.” He also said the team wanted to make something new rather than join what he described as a “tsunami of stone dials.” The result is a watch whose main proposition is visual: a compact, sharply shaped case and a warm, sculpted gold surface.
What are the B/1.3r’s specifications?
| Specification | B/1.3r |
|---|---|
| Case | Grade 5 titanium, brushed and matte-blasted |
| Dimensions | 32 mm diameter × 31.5 mm length; 9.1–10.4 mm thick, according to Fratello |
| Dial | Solid 18K yellow gold, ripple pattern |
| Crystal | Faceted sapphire |
| Movement | Sellita SW100 automatic; 25 jewels; 28,800 vibrations per hour |
| Power reserve | About 42 hours: Fratello’s specification table says 41 hours, while its narrative and Hodinkee report 42 |
| Display | Time only |
| Bracelet and clasp | Titanium bracelet with butterfly clasp |
| Water resistance | 5 ATM / 50 m |
| Reported price | US$10,200, excluding taxes, according to Fratello; Hodinkee also reports US$10,200 |
| Reported edition size | Unsettled: Fratello says 300 pieces; Hodinkee says 350 |
The listed 5 ATM rating makes this a watch for ordinary splashes and day-to-day wear, not a dedicated diving watch. The reported price and edition size come from Fratello and Hodinkee’s January 27, 2026 introduction. The sources disagree on the edition count, so neither figure should be treated as confirmed here.

How does the B/1.3r compare with the original B/1?
The original B/1 established the brand’s angular case and integrated-bracelet approach in stainless steel with a lapis dial. Hodinkee’s 2024 introduction gave it a 33.5 mm case width and a US$4,000 launch price. That is the original stated price, not a current market valuation.

The B/1.3r is not simply a smaller or more expensive B/1: it changes the case material and replaces lapis with a gold dial, while retaining the same movement family and 5 ATM water-resistance rating. The titanium and gold combination is the central reason to consider it over the original design; it is not an upgrade in complication or water resistance.

Is the B/1.3r worth US$10,200?
It may be worth that price to a buyer who wants this particular object: a small, sculptural watch with a solid gold dial, titanium construction and a distinctive bracelet. The quoted price is substantial, but the materials and visual identity—not a complicated caliber—are the basis of its appeal.
Reasons it may suit you
- You want a watch with an unconventional case and a dial that is more than a printed or applied surface.
- You value titanium’s lightness and the contrast between its dark finishes and the warm gold dial.
- You are comfortable paying a premium for design and materials rather than additional functions.
Reasons to hesitate
- You expect a technically elaborate movement or functions beyond hours and minutes.
- You want stronger water resistance for swimming or water sports; the reported rating is 5 ATM / 50 m.
- You need a confirmed production count, current stock or resale value before deciding. The two cited publications disagree on the edition size, and the available reporting does not establish current availability or market pricing.
There are no reliable industry-wide figures here for the B/1.3r’s accuracy, reliability or owner satisfaction. The cited coverage establishes its reported movement and construction, not long-term performance statistics.

What is the Oshinobi?
The Oshinobi is a separate creation announced by Fratello on October 6, 2026, not a tested production watch. Fratello describes a one-off concept planned for the Phillips TimeForArt auction in New York on December 5, 2026. Its 21 mm-wide sandblasted Grade 5 titanium case has a sliding cover that reveals a concave dial set with approximately 387 natural diamonds weighing about two carats in total. A manual-winding Swiss LTM (Le Temps Manufacture) caliber powers it.
The article says a limited-production Oshinobi is planned for 2027, but does not establish final production specifications, price or availability. Since the auction date is still in the future as of October 8, 2026, the planned auction should not be mistaken for a completed sale. One Fratello reader questioned whether winding would be easy with a hidden crown. That is a reasonable question to ask about the concept, but it is not a verified usability finding.
