First confirm that your Ebel is a quartz watch and check its warranty. There is no single battery size or safe opening method for every Ebel model: the reference, movement and case-back design determine what is required. It may be possible for someone with watch-repair experience, the correct model-specific tool and the correctly identified replacement cell, but opening the case is only part of the job. EBEL’s operating and warranty manual describes battery service as including “control of the movement; battery replacement; watch-case gaskets replacement and water-resistance test.” A battery swap without appropriate gasket work and testing does not establish that the watch remains water-resistant.

A repair provider says some Ebel battery replacements require a special tool, but does not establish one tool that fits every model. A generic case opener is not a substitute for identifying the case-back design, protecting the watch and resealing and testing it correctly. If a back does not open as expected, stop rather than applying force.
What should I do before arranging service?
- Identify the watch. Find its model or reference on the case or paperwork. Share that information with the service provider so they can confirm they handle that exact model.
- Check warranty status. Review your warranty card and purchase terms before allowing anyone to open the watch. The EBEL manual says unauthorized work can automatically render its international warranty null and void; it also says statutory rights are not restricted. Terms and applicable rights may depend on the purchase and jurisdiction.
- Ask what the service includes. Confirm whether the provider will control the movement, replace or inspect the case gasket, close the case and test water resistance. Do not assume every battery service includes all of these tasks.
- Get a current local quote. Price and turnaround are not established here and can vary. Ask for both directly, along with confirmation of the provider’s experience with your reference.

Independent providers also describe Ebel battery services, but their current authorization, capabilities and quality should be confirmed directly. For example, Marina Bay Watch Company’s Ebel repair page describes quartz battery replacement, gasket replacement when necessary and water testing. United Watch Services’ Ebel repair page lists battery replacement and describes gasket replacement, resealing and water-proof testing. These are provider statements, not independent confirmation of current authorization or service quality.

What does Ebel’s manual say about warranty and battery coverage?
The retrieved EBEL operating and warranty manual states that the general international watch warranty lasts three years from purchase from an authorized retailer, and that quartz battery coverage lasts two years from purchase. It says official-center battery replacement is at the consumer’s expense after that battery-coverage period. The manual’s version and date are not confirmed here, so check your own warranty card, purchase terms and applicable local rights rather than treating those periods as universal.
The manual also warns that work by an unauthorized person or entity can automatically void the international warranty. If warranty coverage may apply, contact an official Ebel service center before authorizing a repair.

Why is water-resistance testing important after a battery change?
Opening a water-resistant watch disturbs the seal. EBEL’s described battery service includes replacing case gaskets and testing water resistance, and repair providers likewise describe gasket work and water testing. Unless a qualified provider has resealed and tested the closed case, do not assume its former water resistance remains. Ask what test was performed and follow the provider’s guidance before exposing the watch to water.
