That is a general recommendation, not a fixed deadline for every watch: condition and how the watch is used also matter. [Rolex service FAQ]
Why Rolex recommends periodic servicing
Rolex says professional servicing helps maintain a watch’s accuracy and waterproofness. Its Oyster Perpetual guide also explains that specially developed lubricants help minimize friction and prevent component wear. [Rolex service FAQ] [Oyster Perpetual user guide]

What happens during a complete service
Rolex describes a complete service as dismantling and inspecting the watch, including its case, bracelet and movement. The movement is disassembled, parts that do not meet Rolex requirements are replaced, and the movement is lubricated and tested. The case and bracelet are cleaned and may be refinished as appropriate. Rolex also checks waterproofness, power reserve and precision. The work needed depends on the individual watch’s condition. Where to take your Oyster Perpetual
Rolex recommends an Official Rolex Jeweler or Rolex Service Center. Professional servicing is carried out by a Rolex-approved watchmaker. [Rolex service FAQ] [Oyster Perpetual user guide]
