Apple’s published Apple Watch charging times are approximate times to reach 80%, not estimates for a full charge. Series 10 and later take about 30 minutes; Series 7, 8, 9, SE 3, Ultra 3 and later take about 45 minutes; and Ultra and Ultra 2 take about an hour. Apple separately lists about 1.5 hours to reach 80% for Apple Watch SE (2nd generation).
Fast-charge times require the correct Apple USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable and a compatible USB-C power adapter. Actual results vary with the adapter, region, settings, starting battery level, usage and environment, as Apple notes in its fast-charge guidance.
Apple Watch charging times at a glance
The table summarizes Apple’s published approximate times to 80%. These are model-specific estimates, not guarantees for every charging session.
| Apple Watch model | Approximate time to 80% | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Series 10, Series 11, Series 12 and later | About 30 minutes | Fast charge, 0–80% |
| Series 7, Series 8 and Series 9 | About 45 minutes | Fast charge, 0–80% |
| Apple Watch SE 3 | About 45 minutes | Fast charge, 0–80% |
| Apple Watch Ultra 3, Ultra 4 and later | About 45 minutes | Fast charge, 0–80% |
| Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2 | About 1 hour | Fast charge, 0–80% |
| Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) | About 1.5 hours | Apple specification, up to 80%; not a fast-charge time |
| Series 1–6 and first-generation Apple Watch SE | No time established in Apple’s current fast-charge guide | Do not infer a time from newer models |
Apple’s current fast-charge guide covers Series 7 and later, SE 3, and Ultra and later. The SE 2 estimate comes from Apple’s SE (2nd generation) technical specifications. Apple does not provide a universal 0–100% charging time in the cited guidance.

How fast does each Apple Watch charge?
Apple Watch Series 10 and later: about 30 minutes to 80%
Apple lists Series 10 and later—including Series 11 and Series 12—as reaching 80% in approximately 30 minutes with fast charging. The figure is an estimate under Apple’s test conditions, not a promise for every battery, charger or setting.
Apple also gives model-specific short-charge battery-life examples. For instance, it says 15 minutes of charging gives Series 12 up to 12 additional hours of battery life. This is Apple’s use-time claim, not a fixed percentage-charge result; actual battery life depends on use and conditions.
Apple Watch Series 7, 8 and 9: about 45 minutes to 80%
Apple lists approximately 45 minutes from 0% to 80% for Series 7, Series 8 and Series 9 when using fast charging. The result depends on the required cable and a compatible adapter, as well as the charging conditions.
Apple Watch SE 3 and Ultra 3 and later: about 45 minutes to 80%
Apple lists approximately 45 minutes to reach 80% for SE 3 and Ultra 3 and later, including Ultra 4. Apple also says 15 minutes of charging gives SE 3 up to eight additional hours of battery life. That is an Apple use-time estimate, not a guaranteed charge percentage or duration of use for every person.

Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2: about one hour to 80%
Apple lists approximately one hour to reach 80% for the original Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2. These are fast-charge estimates, and actual results vary with the charging setup and conditions.
Apple Watch SE (2nd generation): about 1.5 hours to 80%
Apple’s SE 2 technical specifications say it can reach 80% in about 1.5 hours. This is a separate specification, not an Apple fast-charge time. Apple does not provide a full-charge estimate in the cited passage.
Older models: no universal current estimate
Apple’s current fast-charge guide does not establish a time for Series 1 through Series 6 or the first-generation SE. Their charging time can vary, and a newer model’s benchmark should not be applied to them.
Why Apple quotes charging time to 80%, not 100%
The published comparisons above stop at 80%. Apple’s current fast-charge guide does not provide a universal time from 0% to 100%, so you cannot reliably calculate a full-charge time by scaling the 0–80% figure.

What you need for Apple Watch fast charging
Apple says fast charging requires its USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable. Connect it to a compatible USB-C power adapter; a magnetic charging puck alone does not establish that fast charging is available.
- Use the right cable. Apple identifies its USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable as the fast-charge cable. Apple says the cable supplied with a watch is guaranteed to provide the fastest charging speed for that particular model.
- Use a compatible adapter. Apple lists compatible Apple USB-C adapters and says a comparable third-party USB-C adapter must support USB Power Delivery at 5 W or greater.
- Account for regional cable differences. In countries with WPT regulation, Apple may supply a WPT-compliant cable when required. Apple says WPT-compliant chargers do not support fast charging; a WPT label on the aluminium charging puck identifies this type.
- Do not expect more wattage to beat the watch’s published timing. A higher-wattage adapter does not justify promising a faster charge than Apple’s estimate.
Before buying a replacement cable or adapter, check Apple’s fast-charge requirements and the exact product’s compatibility. Apple says the cable included with each watch provides that model’s fastest charging speed, so a new accessory is not necessarily an upgrade.
Why your Apple Watch may charge more slowly
Apple says actual charging time varies with the adapter, region, settings, initial battery level, usage and environmental factors. It also notes that extreme heat or cold can prevent fast charging.

- Adapter or cable: The setup may not meet Apple’s fast-charge requirements, or the cable may be a WPT-compliant type.
- Starting battery level: A session starting above 0% cannot be compared directly with a 0–80% benchmark.
- Usage and display: Charging can take longer if the display stays on or the watch is in use.
- Updates or transfers: Software updates and media transfers can extend charging time.
- Temperature: Extreme heat or cold can prevent fast charging, and environmental conditions affect the result.
- First charge after pairing: Apple says the first fast charge after pairing with an iPhone can take longer.
- Cellular setup: For a cellular watch, Apple recommends keeping the paired iPhone within range while charging.
How to check an unusually slow charge
- Identify your model. Compare your watch with the model-specific entries above; Apple publishes different estimates for different generations.
- Verify the cable and adapter. Check that you have Apple’s USB-C Magnetic Fast Charging Cable and a compatible USB-C power adapter that meets Apple’s requirements.
- Check for a WPT label. Apple says WPT-compliant chargers do not support fast charging.
- Reduce avoidable delays. Charge in a moderate environment, leave the watch idle, and avoid charging while software updates or media transfers are taking place.
- Compare equivalent intervals. Apple’s fast-charge figures are approximate times to 80%; compare from a similar starting charge and remember that conditions affect the result.
If the watch still charges unusually slowly after checking the model and setup, consult Apple Support for diagnosis rather than assuming a particular repair or replacement is needed.
