Artist Ruohan Wang says the emotional starting point for Peak Performance’s The Wind Catcher SS26 capsule was a hiker’s encounter in northern China: someone practicing Tai Chi in a forest while wearing an outdoor shell. She translated that meeting of movement, nature and outdoor clothing into expressive figures and graphics designed to move with lightweight garments—not simply decorate them.
The scene that started the collaboration
In a May 28, 2026 interview with Field Mag, Wang recalls: “It actually began with a very specific moment. While hiking in northern China, I saw someone practicing Tai Chi in the forest while wearing an outdoor shell jacket.” She calls that image “the emotional starting point of the collection.”

For Wang, the scene brought Eastern ideas about the body into contact with northern outdoor culture without making them feel at odds. That coexistence became the collection’s central design premise: clothing for outdoor movement carrying imagery shaped by awareness, stillness and imagination.
How the artwork was designed to move
Wang says Tai Chi informed how she thought about movement and the body. She did not approach the garments as blank surfaces for graphics; she considered the relationship between the image, the wearer and the garment in motion. As she put it, “I wasn’t asking myself whether a graphic simply looked good on a jacket. I was thinking about what happens when the garment moves with the body.”

That approach matters especially on a very light jacket. Wang describes the jackets as incredibly light and the artwork as emotionally and visually intense. In her account, restraint and expression depend on one another: the garment’s lightness provides a counterpoint to the vivid imagery rather than requiring the graphic to overwhelm it.
The capsule’s colors also carry distinct roles in her description. Wang was drawn to Peak Performance’s earthy palette, then added neon yellow for imagination and energy, leaf green to connect human movement with nature, and beige-apricot as a reminder of warmth and humanity. These are her stated intentions for the colors, not technical performance claims.

Figures, characters and the collection’s motifs
The figures are not realistic anatomical studies. Wang says, “The characters aren’t anatomical—they’re perceptual.” They represent emotional or physical states, an approach that connects the graphics to bodily awareness without depicting bodies literally.

One recurring motif is a pair of walking legs, inspired by the Chinese character 人. Wang says the collection includes 13 characters, each associated with a different emotional or physical state. Three named figures suggest the range of ideas:

Wang presents these figures as reminders to stay adaptable and playful, and to remain connected to the body and its surroundings. Their meaning is therefore less about illustrating outdoor activity literally than about giving movement an emotional vocabulary.
