The 2015 limited edition was developed with watchmakers Franck Orny and Johnny Girardin. This explainer describes the mechanism and published specifications; it is not a report of personal ownership or wrist testing.
How does the Opus 14 jukebox mechanism work?
Harry Winston’s October 28, 2015 announcement describes four discs stored in a magazine: local time, GMT, date, and an aesthetic disc featuring a star with the brand’s signature. The selector at 9 o’clock chooses a disc and shifts the magazine vertically to free it. The pusher at 4 o’clock then operates the transfer mechanism.
- Turn the selector at 9 o’clock to choose the GMT, date, or aesthetic disc.
- Press the pusher at 4 o’clock once. An arm transfers the selected disc from the magazine to a reading platform.
- Read the indication on the platform. Local time remains displayed while the selected secondary display is shown.
- Press the pusher at 4 o’clock a second time to return the disc to the magazine.
Hodinkee’s October 30, 2015 launch-event account adds that a selected disc emerges laterally from the stack and rotates to reveal its indication through a traveling window and index. Hodinkee reported that the sequence took about eight seconds; that is an observation from its event coverage, not a manufacturer-listed specification.
What does it display, and what powers the animation?
The official product page lists home time by disc, retrograde minutes, a calendar by disc on demand, GMT by disc on demand, and an HW aesthetic disc on demand. It also identifies separate animation and movement power reserves by disc. In the original announcement, Harry Winston said the movement has two distinct, independently functioning power reserves that share a winding mechanism.

Harry Winston gave the timekeeping autonomy as up to 68 hours and the animation reserve as up to five back-and-forth disc movements. These are the brand’s launch figures, not independent measurements of a particular watch. Push-pieces between the lugs at 12 o’clock correct the date and GMT, according to the same announcement.

The scale is central to the spectacle, but the listed dimensions also make wearability a practical concern. Hodinkee described the watch as massive at launch. Without direct wrist testing, comfort or fit should not be inferred from the dimensions alone. The listed 3-bar water resistance is also a modest specification, not a reason to treat this as a watch for swimming.

The Opus series began in 2001, according to Harry Winston, and Opus 14 was announced as its fourteenth chapter. The brand drew on 1950s jukeboxes for both the visual design and the automaton complication. Harry Winston said the movement contains 1,066 components and described miniaturizing the jukebox mechanism as a first, adding that it had been patented by the brand. That patent statement is Harry Winston’s claim.

Hodinkee reported that Blancpain’s internal lab tested the movement, with the process including about 4,500 repetitions of the jukebox animation. This is a 2015 secondary report of a company test, not an independently reproduced reliability result. Hodinkee also attributed the mechanism’s background buzzing to watchmakers Orny and Girardin: they said they chose not to use a silent centrifugal regulator because the anchor’s sound added to the experience of watching the complication move.
Price and availability: what can be confirmed?
Hodinkee reported a launch price of CHF 428,000 in 2015. That is historical launch pricing, not a current quote. Harry Winston’s product page currently identifies the reference and limited edition and directs visitors to appointment and assistance options, but it does not establish live stock, a current retail price, or resale value. A current seller’s inventory or authorization is likewise not established here.
