I used to dismiss the Cartier Pasha’s wide bezel, crown cap and distinctive three-part lugs. Spending time with the salmon-dial Pasha de Cartier WSPA0040 changed my mind: I found it more wearable and compelling than its unusual design had led me to expect, even though a few details still missed the mark.

Which salmon Cartier Pasha is this?
The watch is the Cartier Pasha de Cartier reference WSPA0040, a 41 mm stainless-steel model with a salmon dial. The Time+Tide review, published on 12 November 2023, lists a thickness of 9.55 mm, a 48 mm lug-to-lug span, sapphire crystals on the front and back, and water resistance of 10 bar. Its automatic Cartier 1847 MC movement displays hours, minutes, seconds and the date. Read the Time+Tide review.
Why the dial won me over—and what still bothered me
The salmon surface is divided by crisp geometric engravings, giving the dial texture without making its layout hard to follow. A modified railroad-style minute track frames oversized serif Arabic numerals at the cardinal points. Luminous blocks and blued sword hands add contrast to the warm dial.

I liked the tone and finishing, but I would have preferred applied numerals to the printed ones. The date window’s placement also felt awkward to me. Those are personal design preferences, but they are worth noticing if the dial is the main reason you are considering this Pasha.
How the Pasha wears on the wrist
On my 6.25-inch wrist, the 41 mm case wore comfortably. The 48 mm lug-to-lug measurement and roughly 10 mm height helped keep it manageable for me; those dimensions do not guarantee the same fit for another wrist.

Its comfort does not make it visually discreet. The stepped, polished bezel caught reflections readily and showed fingerprints, making the watch conspicuous. The broad bezel and unusual case shape are central to the Pasha’s character, so wrist fit and visual presence are separate questions: I found it easy to wear, but hard to overlook.
The crown cap and case details
The crown-protection device protrudes from the side of the case and is one of the Pasha’s most distinctive features. It covers a crown set with a synthetic spinel cabochon; the case flanks are brushed, contrasting with the reflective bezel. I found the crown manageable to wind after unscrewing its cap. The setup adds a small extra step, but in use it was less awkward than I had expected.

Movement, power reserve and water resistance
The review describes the automatic 1847 MC through the sapphire caseback, noting grained decoration and a sandblasted baseplate. It gives the movement’s height as 3.8 mm and says it uses anti-magnetic components, while noting that the resistance amount was not disclosed.
Time+Tide lists a 40-hour power reserve in its specification table, but its author says Cartier had not disclosed the figure and presents 40 hours as his understanding. Treat that reserve figure as qualified reporting from the 2023 review, not an independently confirmed current Cartier specification. The same review lists water resistance at 10 bar.

Bracelet, leather strap and QuickSwitch
The WSPA0040 was listed with either a stainless-steel H-link bracelet or a brown alligator-leather strap. I found the bracelet simple beside the more elaborate case and preferred the supplied brown strap. The QuickSwitch system allows tool-free strap or bracelet changes, and the bracelet’s SmartLink adjustment is listed as a feature in the review.
The lug design prevents fitting aftermarket straps, according to Bošnjak. That limits the usual freedom to try generic replacements, so the supplied options and the QuickSwitch system matter more here than they would on a watch with conventional lugs.

The Pasha history, with an important caveat
The review recounts the story that Thami El Glaoui, Pasha of Marrakesh, was said to have commissioned Louis Cartier for a watch suitable for bathing in the early 1930s. It also notes that the earliest images of a watch resembling the modern Pasha date to 1943, so the commission story should not be treated as settled fact. The collection returned in the 1980s, with Gérald Genta involved, particularly in developing a movement for it.
My verdict: a design I had to experience
My reservations did not disappear: I still wanted applied numerals, a better-placed date window and a bracelet with more character. But the dial’s color and detail, the unexpectedly comfortable fit on my wrist, and the practical QuickSwitch system made the watch more appealing than its polarizing case had suggested. As I wrote in the review, “I would’ve never considered a Pasha for my collection before actually experiencing one for a lengthier period of time.”
The review listed the watch at US$7,350 and as “available now” in November 2023. Those are historical details, not verified current pricing or stock information.
