Compatible Fitbit devices can use Google Wallet for contactless payments, but support depends on your Fitbit model, country or region, and card issuer. Once setup is complete, you can pay from your wrist without carrying your phone.
Check that your Fitbit supports Google Wallet
Google lists these Fitbit devices as compatible:
- Fitbit Versa Special Edition
- Fitbit Versa 2, Versa 3, and Versa 4
- Fitbit Sense and Sense 2
- Fitbit Charge 3 Special Edition
- Fitbit Charge 4, Charge 5, and Charge 6
- Fitbit Ace LTE
The Charge 3 Special Edition and Versa Special Edition must be the NFC-equipped editions. The Fitbit Ionic is an exception: Google says Ionic devices cannot switch from Fitbit Pay to Google Wallet, and the model was recalled in 2022. Google’s Fitbit Wallet requirements and its Fitbit technical FAQ contain the current device details.

Check your country and card
Google Wallet availability on Fitbit is separate from Google Wallet availability on a phone. Your country must support Fitbit contactless payments, and your specific credit or debit card must be supported by its issuer.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteA card that works in Google Wallet on an Android phone is therefore not automatically eligible for Fitbit. Check Google’s country- and issuer-specific Fitbit payment list before troubleshooting the app. Google’s release notes say Fitbit Wallet has expanded to NFC-capable Fitbit devices in most markets, with Japan, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia listed as exceptions at the time of publication; availability can change.

What you need before setup
- A compatible, NFC-capable Fitbit
- The Fitbit paired with and close to your phone
- A Google Account
- An eligible credit or debit card
- Bluetooth enabled on the phone and Fitbit
- Wi-Fi or mobile internet on the phone
- The latest Fitbit firmware and companion app

The Google Health setup instructions also require passcode protection on the phone. You do not need the Google Wallet phone app to add Google Wallet to Fitbit, although you do need the phone’s companion app for initial setup and later card management.
Add Google Wallet using the Fitbit app
If your phone still shows the standard Fitbit interface, use this route:
- Put the Fitbit near your phone and make sure Bluetooth and internet access are enabled.
- Open the Fitbit app.
- Open Today, then tap Devices.
- Select your Fitbit.
- Sign in to a Google Account when prompted.
- Create a four-digit PIN for the Fitbit.
- Open Google Wallet.
- Choose New credit or debit card, or select an eligible card already associated with Google Wallet.
- Scan the card with your phone’s camera or enter its details manually.
- Enter the card’s three-digit security code.
- Choose the bank’s verification method and enter the verification code.

If your app uses Google Health
Google’s newer documentation also provides a Google Health setup path. In Google Health version 4.27 or later:
- Open Google Health.
- Tap Connections.
- Select your Fitbit device.
- Tap Google, then Wallet.
- Tap Update to Google Wallet.
- Sign in and follow the prompts to add and verify your card.
Menu names can vary by app version, device, and region. If you do not see the Google Health route, update the companion app and use the Fitbit-app path where available.
How to pay with your Fitbit
- Open the Google Wallet app on the Fitbit. On a Charge 5 or Charge 6, swipe down from the clock face and tap Payments or Google Wallet. Other models may place Wallet in the app list or device menu.
- Enter your four-digit PIN if the Fitbit is locked.
- With the default card displayed, hold the Fitbit near a contactless payment reader.
- Keep it near the reader until the Fitbit vibrates or makes a sound and the terminal confirms the payment.
For a different card, open Google Wallet, swipe to that card, and wait for the Hold to terminal prompt before presenting the Fitbit. Look for the contactless or Google Pay symbol at the terminal.

Manage cards on Fitbit
Change the default card
- Open Google Wallet on the Fitbit.
- Swipe to the card you want to use by default.
- Tap the card.
- Choose Make default for tap to pay.
Add another card
Return to the Google Wallet section of the Fitbit or companion app and choose the option to add a new credit or debit card. Some supported Fitbit manuals state that a device can hold up to six payment cards, but the limit may depend on the model or software version.
Remove a card
- Open Google Wallet on the Fitbit.
- Swipe to the card.
- Tap the card.
- Tap More in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Remove payment card.
If the Fitbit is lost
Use the Fitbit or Google Health app on your phone to open Google Wallet for the device and remove its payment cards as soon as possible. The four-digit PIN provides additional protection, but it should not replace removing cards from a lost or stolen Fitbit.

Fix common Google Wallet problems
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Google Wallet or Payments is missing | Unsupported region, outdated firmware, delayed availability, or contactless payments are not initialized | Confirm your country is supported, update the Fitbit, wait up to 24 hours after an update, and confirm contactless payments have been set up. Then update the companion app and restart both devices as practical troubleshooting steps. |
| Card is rejected | The card or issuer supports Google Wallet on your phone but not on Fitbit | Check the Fitbit-specific supported-card list. If the card is listed but verification fails, contact the bank or Fitbit support rather than repeatedly retrying. |
| “Network error” appears | The Fitbit is too far away, Bluetooth is disabled, or the phone has no internet | Keep the Fitbit close, enable Bluetooth on both devices, confirm Wi-Fi or cellular data, ensure the app can communicate with the Fitbit, charge and sync the device, then try again. |
| A card disappeared | The Fitbit’s screen lock was removed | Set up the screen lock again and add the card again. Removing the lock automatically deletes payment cards from the device. |
| The PIN is locked | Too many incorrect PIN attempts | After 10 incorrect attempts, Google Health says the Fitbit prompts you to unlock it through the companion app. |
| Fitbit Pay cards are missing | Fitbit Pay cards do not migrate automatically | Add each card again in Google Wallet. In the normal transition markets, the move from Fitbit Pay to Google Wallet is effectively one-way. |
Important Fitbit Wallet limitations
- Fitbit Pay cards do not transfer automatically. Google’s transition date was July 29, 2024, with regional exceptions including Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Taiwan. Fitbit Pay is now a legacy or regional exception rather than the normal setup path.
- Phone support does not guarantee Fitbit support. Fitbit has its own country, bank, and card eligibility rules.
- Only one Google Account can be associated with Fitbit payments. Changing the Google Account deletes cards stored on the device.
- Removing the device lock deletes payment cards. This is a security feature, not a synchronization fault.
- Gift, loyalty, rewards, and ordinary discount cards are not supported for Fitbit contactless payments. Google Wallet on Fitbit is for eligible payment cards.
- Changing phones normally does not require adding every card again. Install the Fitbit app on the new phone, sign in with the same account, reconnect the Fitbit, and open Google Wallet. Confirm that the same Fitbit and Google Account are being used.
If your bank is unsupported, Google Health mentions services such as Revolut, Curve, or Wise as possible alternatives in some markets. Check availability, fees, protections, and country restrictions carefully; using one may mean giving up features tied to your existing bank card.

Do I need the Google Wallet app on my phone?
No. Google says the phone Wallet app is not required for Fitbit setup. You do need the Fitbit or Google Health companion app, a Google Account, and an eligible card.
Can I pay without my phone?
Yes. After a card has been added and verified, the phone does not need to be nearby when you pay. It remains necessary for setup and card management.
