A British watch under £600 can be British in its design or brand identity without being made in Britain. To choose well, check what “British” means for the particular model, then compare its movement, dimensions, case material, water-resistance rating and written warranty. The examples below illustrate those checks; they are not a complete, price-verified shortlist of the current market.
What “British” means on a watch listing
A brand’s nationality or design address does not establish where every watch component is made or assembled. Look for model-specific statements about the case, movement and finishing rather than treating “British” as a manufacturing claim.

- Farer says its watches are designed in London and handmade in Switzerland. Farer’s account of its watchmaking describes the brand-level arrangement.
- The Fears Garrick product page specifically says its case is made in the UK and describes UK finishing of its movement. Those claims concern the Garrick, not necessarily every Fears watch. Fears Garrick specifications
For a purchase where UK manufacture matters, ask what the maker means by “made,” which components are UK-made, and where assembly and finishing take place. Do not infer those details from a British name or design heritage.

Automatic
Farer’s Curtis uses a Sellita SW300-1 Elaboré automatic movement and lists an approximately 56-hour power reserve. That reserve is the stated running time when the watch is fully wound and then left unworn; it is not a measure of accuracy. The page does not establish a price here, so confirm the current price before treating the Curtis as an under-£600 option. Farer Curtis specifications
Manual-wound mechanical
The Fears Garrick is described as having a manual-wound UT-G04 movement. That means the wearer winds it by hand rather than relying on wrist motion to wind an automatic movement. The product page does not establish a price here, so verify the current price before considering it within this budget. Fears Garrick product page

Diameter is only one part of how a watch sits on a wrist. Case depth affects how high it stands, while lug-to-lug length helps indicate how far it spans across the wrist. Compare all three measurements with a watch you already find comfortable, and account for your preference for a compact or more prominent fit.

Farer lists the Curtis at 40mm in diameter, 10.9mm deep and 43mm lug-to-lug. It has a Grade 2 titanium case. These measurements offer a useful comparison point, not a guarantee that it will fit every wrist. Curtis case measurements
Case material is another practical distinction. The Accurate is listed with a 316L stainless-steel case and sapphire glass; the Curtis uses Grade 2 titanium; the Garrick page specifies a 42mm 904L steel case. Consider material alongside dimensions and the maker’s description of the particular model rather than assuming that a material alone determines comfort or durability.

Read water resistance as a specification, not a promise
The Accurate is listed at 5ATM, while the Curtis is listed at 100m. These are the manufacturers’ stated ratings. A rating is not, by itself, a blanket assurance that a watch is suitable for every water activity; check the exact model’s care instructions and guidance before exposing it to water. Compare warranties, exclusions and returns separately
A long headline warranty period is only one part of aftercare. Read the current terms for the exact model and sales channel, noting what is covered, what is excluded, whether servicing must be documented or performed by an authorised provider, and how returns work. A returns window is not the same as a defect guarantee.

Farer
Farer says it offers a 60-month movement guarantee and a conditional 30-day refund or exchange period. Check the brand’s current terms for the conditions that apply to the watch you are buying. Farer guarantee and returns information
Christopher Ward documents
A Christopher Ward guarantee document describes a 60-month movement guarantee and 60-day returns for watches in perfect, unused condition. A separate model manual recommends service at 3–4 year intervals and says warranty repair can depend on service history; it also excludes accidental damage and says third-party service voids the stated guarantee. These are statements in specific documents, not proof that identical terms apply to every model. Christopher Ward guarantee document · C65 Driver manual
Fears Garrick
The Garrick page states a two-year guarantee covering specified defects. Check the page’s terms to understand which defects qualify and what is excluded. Garrick guarantee information
A practical checklist before buying
- Confirm the price. Make sure the exact model is currently offered for £600 or less, including any applicable delivery charges. A product example without an established price is not a verified under-budget recommendation.
- Pin down the British connection. Check whether the maker is describing design, assembly, case manufacture, movement finishing or another component.
- Match the movement to your preference. Note whether it is quartz, automatic or manual-wound, and consider any stated power reserve without treating it as an accuracy ranking.
- Check fit. Compare diameter, depth and lug-to-lug with a watch that suits you; review case material as part of the same decision.
- Use water-resistance guidance carefully. Record the stated rating and follow the manufacturer’s model-specific instructions for use and care.
- Read the actual aftercare terms. Confirm covered components, exclusions, service-history rules, guarantee duration and return conditions for the exact model and seller.
