Start by measuring the flat width across the top of your wrist, then compare it with the watch’s lug-to-lug length. Use that as an initial fit screen—not a comfort guarantee—and also check thickness, case shape, strap fit and the watch’s water-use rating.
Measure your wrist for the watch’s footprint
Measure the flat top width
Measure across the flattest part of your wrist where you intend to wear the watch. Wrist circumference can add context, but flat width is more directly comparable with the watch’s top-to-bottom footprint. A watch-fit guide also recommends considering wrist shape rather than relying on circumference or diameter alone: Victorinox’s guide to finding the right watch.

Compare that width with lug-to-lug
Lug-to-lug is the distance from the tip of one lug to the tip of the opposite lug. Compare it with your wrist’s flat width as a first screen: a measurement that sits within the flat area is promising, but does not establish that the watch will feel comfortable or sit well. Curved lugs and case shape affect how a watch rests on the wrist. If a manufacturer does not list lug-to-lug, ask the maker or retailer; do not infer it from diameter.

Look beyond case diameter
Diameter describes the width of the case, but not how far the watch extends across your wrist. A compact diameter can still feel tall or bulky if the case is thick, while a larger nominal diameter can have a shorter footprint. Consider diameter, lug-to-lug, thickness and case shape together. There is no universal wrist-size-to-diameter formula that can replace those comparisons.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Try a watch on if possible, or buy from a seller with a clear return policy. Comfort and fit are individual, and measurements cannot account for every wrist shape or wearing preference.
Match the water claim to how you will use the watch
Water resistance is not the same as an ISO claim
A stated depth rating and a claim of ISO 6425 compliance or certification are related but distinct. A depth rating alone does not prove that a particular watch is ISO-certified. Check the exact model reference and the manufacturer’s documentation, and describe the claim as the manufacturer states it.

For example, Citizen’s U.S. listing for the Promaster Dive EO2020-08E specifies 200m/20 bar water resistance and marks it for scuba diving. Citizen’s EO2027-09L page describes a 37mm Promaster Dive with 200m water resistance and says the collection is ISO compliant. Those are maker claims about specific listings; they should not be treated as interchangeable evidence of certification for every reference. See the EO2020-08E listing and EO2027-09L listing.

Decide whether you need a dive instrument or a dive-watch style
Be clear about whether you want a watch for everyday wear and swimming, or one intended as a timing instrument for scuba diving. Use the manufacturer’s exact water-resistance and standards wording to judge whether a model suits your purpose; do not infer a standard from a depth number or the word “dive” alone.

These manufacturer-listed examples illustrate why diameter alone is not enough. They are not a controlled fit comparison, and the cited listings do not establish how either watch will fit a particular wrist.

Check the details that affect daily wear
Thickness, weight and case shape
Thickness affects how high a watch sits and whether it catches on a cuff. Weight and case shape also change how substantial it feels, so consider them alongside footprint rather than assuming that a smaller diameter will wear unobtrusively.
Strap fit and replacement options
Check lug width before buying a replacement strap; it is not the lug-to-lug measurement. Citizen lists an 18mm lug width for the EO2020-08E. Confirm the exact reference and width before ordering a strap.

Legibility and bezel operation
For a watch you plan to use for timing, inspect whether the dial is easy for you to read and whether you can operate the bezel comfortably. These practical checks matter alongside the maker’s rating, particularly if the watch is meant for more than casual wear.
Movement and crystal
Choose among quartz, solar-assisted and automatic movements according to your preference for power source and upkeep. Compare crystal material as well: the EO2020-08E listing, for example, specifies mineral crystal. These are different feature sets, not evidence of a performance ranking.
Quick Recap
A practical selection checklist
- Measure your wrist’s flat top width at the intended wearing position; note circumference if useful, but do not use it as a substitute.
- Find the exact reference’s lug-to-lug measurement and compare it with your wrist width. If it is missing, ask the manufacturer or retailer.
- Compare diameter, thickness and case shape together, then try the watch on when possible.
- Decide whether your intended use is everyday wear and swimming or scuba timing, and verify the precise water-resistance and ISO wording for that reference.
- Check strap width, weight, legibility, bezel operation, crystal and movement against your preferences.
- Confirm current specifications and availability on the manufacturer’s page, and use a clear return policy if you cannot try the watch first.
