Start with the GD-010-1A1 if you want one large digital readout and a front button for the high-brightness LED light. Choose the GA-010-1A1 instead if you also want hands on the dial, and count its 55.1 mm case as part of the decision. Casio describes both models as easy to read, but that is the manufacturer’s wording. Whether you can read the display and reach the buttons comfortably is something only a try-on can confirm.
What Casio’s product pages establish
Casio’s US product pages for the GD-010-1A1 and GA-010-1A1 describe a large, easy-to-read display and a front button that activates the high-brightness LED light. The GA-010-1A1 is an analog-digital model with a large case. The GD-010-1A1 is all-digital. These are descriptions of the product, not measurements of how readable it is. The pages do not give numeral heights or contrast figures, and no independent accessibility testing of these models is cited here. Treat “easy to read” as a claim to verify on your own wrist.
The table below collects the figures Casio lists for the models most relevant to this topic, as shown on its US product pages in October 2026. “Not stated” means the page did not give that value.
| Model | Display layout | Light control (per Casio) | Case size (W × H × D) | Weight | Battery (approx.) | Water resistance | Other listed features |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GD-010-1A1 | All-digital, large readout | Front button, high-brightness LED | Not stated | Not stated | 10 years (US listing) | 20 bar | Not stated |

| GA-110-1B | Analog-digital, big face with layered dial | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Stopwatch and speedometer functions |
| GA-B2100-3A | Analog-digital | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Smartphone link, Tough Solar, hand-shift feature |
Start with the display layout
Layout is the first decision, because it changes everything else on the checklist. An all-digital face shows the time as numerals in a single readout, with no hands crossing the digits and no dial markings competing for attention. An analog-digital face adds hands and a dial, so you get a conventional time read plus a digital window. Neither layout is easier in every case. The right choice depends on which reading method the wearer finds faster.

All-digital: GD-010-1A1
- Casio positions the GD-010-1A1 as having a large readout and a front light button. Nothing competes with the digits.
- Without hands, there is nothing to obstruct the display, so the hand-shift question does not arise.
- The trade-off is that a reader who prefers to glance at hands to tell time will have to learn the digital format.
Analog-digital: GA-010-1A1, GA-B001-1A, GA-110-1B and GA-B2100-3A
- Hands and a digital window give two ways to read the time. This suits wearers who use one method at a glance and the other for precise reading.
- More information on one face means more to see. The GA-110-1B is described by Casio as having a layered dial with stopwatch and speedometer features, so it is busier than a simple analog-digital face.
- Where hands and digits share the same space, the hand-shift feature and the lighting become important (covered below).
Check legibility yourself, in your own conditions
Casio does not publish numeral dimensions or contrast measurements for these models, so legibility has to be judged in person. Check the display at the distance you actually read a watch, which is usually arm’s length rather than close to the face. Look at it indoors under ordinary room light, near a window, and outdoors if you plan to wear it there. A readout that is clear in a showroom can wash out in daylight, and the reverse is also true.
If you have reduced contrast sensitivity, a gradual change in vision, or you wear glasses, test with your own glasses on. Do not rely on a store’s lighting alone.

Test the light button before you buy
Casio highlights a front button on the GD-010-1A1 and GA-010-1A1 that activates the high-brightness LED. A front placement is easier to find than a side button only if your wrist and hand allow you to reach it, so the test has to be done with the watch on.
- Put the watch on the wrist you would wear it on, with the clothing you would normally wear over it, or the sleeve you will use most often.
- Without looking, locate the front button with the thumb or finger you would use. If you need to look for it, note that for the daily routine.
- Press it with one hand while the watch stays on the wrist. Repeat with the other hand if the watch might be worn on either side.
- Press it with the gloves or the grip you would use in cold weather or while holding something, if that applies to you.
- In a dark room, confirm the light illuminates the digits you need. For analog-digital models, check whether the light reaches the digital window or only the face and hands.
If the button is hard to press without shifting the watch on the wrist, that is a fit problem. It is not a sign that the model is wrong for you, but it is useful to know before purchase.

Hand obstruction and the hand-shift feature
Casio lists a hand-shift feature on the GA-010-1A1, GA-B001-1A and GA-B2100-3A, described as moving the hands away from the digital display contents. This matters for analog-digital faces because hands can cover the digits. Casio’s listing does not describe how the shift behaves in every display mode, so check the model manual for when the hands move and how long the shift takes before you rely on it.
If you are choosing an analog-digital model mainly for the digital window, test whether the hands cover the digits at the times you would check the watch. A watch that hides the readout half the time may be less usable than an all-digital model, even with hand shift.

Case size, weight and fit
The GA-010-1A1 is the largest of the models with listed dimensions. Its 55.1 × 51.9 × 17.5 mm case is 12.6 mm wider, 3.7 mm thicker and 16 g heavier than the GA-B001-1A’s 42.5 × 46 × 13.8 mm, 51 g case. A bigger case can make the buttons and display easier to find and read. It can also be bulky under a cuff or on a smaller wrist.
- Wrist and clothing: wear the watch under the sleeve you use most. A thick case can catch or ride up.
- Button access: a larger case does not guarantee easier button reach. Test the actual placement on your wrist.
- Weight: 67 g is noticeable over a full day. Consider whether that matters for your comfort.
- Lug-to-lug and wrist fit: not stated in the Casio listings reviewed for this guide, so check the strap fit by trying the watch on.
Operation complexity
Count the functions you will use and consider whether you can navigate the modes and settings without a manual. A model with more functions has more buttons, more modes and more setup steps. The GA-110-1B adds stopwatch and speedometer features. The GA-B2100-3A adds a smartphone link. Appearance does not tell you how simple a model is to operate. Read the model manual before assuming setup will be straightforward, and try the main modes in the store or on your wrist before purchase.

Try-on checklist
- Choose the display layout first: all-digital for one clear readout, analog-digital for hands plus a digital window.
- Read the display at arm’s length, indoors and outdoors, with your own glasses if you wear them.
- Press the front light button by feel, with the watch on your wrist and clothing on.
- Confirm the light illuminates the digits you need in the dark.
- For analog-digital faces, check whether hands cover the digits and whether hand shift clears them.
- Compare the case size with your wrist and the sleeves you wear.
- Read the model manual for mode and setting steps before relying on the watch for daily use.
- Check live retail listings for current price and stock, because both change.
Casio’s pages describe the features and specifications of these models. They do not show how any of them perform for a particular wearer’s vision or grip. That fit can only be judged with the watch in hand.
