Choose luxury eyewear by starting with what you need the pair to do, then checking its dimensions, comfort, lens specifications and fitting options. Face shape can help you make a styling shortlist, but it is not a rule: the frame that looks and feels right on you matters more than a chart.
Start with the job the eyewear needs to do
Decide whether you are shopping for prescription glasses, sunglasses or separate pairs for each. For prescription frames you expect to wear for hours, prioritize a stable, comfortable fit and confirm that a qualified provider can fit the lenses you need. For sunglasses, consider coverage and the exact model’s UV and filter information, along with the activities you plan to use them for.

Do not treat a dark tint as proof of UV protection. Verify the specifications for the particular model rather than assuming every frame from a brand has the same lenses or features.
Use measurements to narrow your options
Check the inside arm of a pair that already fits you comfortably. It may list three measurements: lens width, bridge width and temple length. CHANEL illustrates the format with 52–19 (140): a 52 mm lens width, 19 mm bridge width and 140 mm temple length.
#1 Best Overall
- Frame Type Full Rim
- Polarized
- Product Dimensions: 56 / 18 / 145
- Frames have a direct impact on your face shape - to give balance and proportions to the face, the frame shape should be in contrast with the face shape. This Irregular model looks best on Oval-Heart-Square-Round faces
As a guide to its own optical frames, CHANEL categorizes lens widths of 46–48 mm as small, 49–52 mm as medium and 53–56 mm as large. Those categories are not a universal industry standard. Measurements are useful for narrowing a shortlist, but matching numbers do not guarantee the same fit: frame shape, nose support and the possibility of adjustment all affect how glasses sit.
Check the fit on your face
Try frames on when possible. They should feel stable without uncomfortable pressure. Pay attention to the nose support and temples, and move your head and face to see whether the lenses touch your eyelashes or cheeks. A frame that looks appealing but shifts, presses or interferes with your face may not be comfortable for regular wear.
Rank #2
- Suitable for everyday wear and outdoor activities
Fit categories and adjustment options are brand- and model-specific. CHANEL, for example, describes universal, standard and alternative fits; its alternative fit includes larger nose pads intended to help a frame sit higher on a low bridge. CHANEL recommends custom fitting and adjustments at a boutique or authorized optician. Ask about the available fit and adjustment options for the exact frame you are considering.
Use face shape as a styling prompt, not a rule
HOYA Vision Care suggests considering contrast, proportion and colour when choosing glasses. Angular frames are one possible contrast for rounder features, but that is a starting point for trying different shapes—not a guarantee that one shape will flatter everyone with a particular face shape.
Rank #3
- Velvet case, drawstring pouch, and cleaning cloth included
- Height: 2.25in / 5.5cm, Lens Width: 57mm, Width: 5.5in / 14cm
- Non-polarized lenses
- Square frame
- Gradient lenses
Compare frames in person or with a reliable try-on tool, and judge the overall proportions on your face. For sunglasses, a larger frame may offer more coverage, but the right size still depends on fit and the model’s specifications.
Check lens details against the intended use
Read the exact model’s lens information rather than choosing by appearance alone. CHANEL says its sunglass lenses provide UV 400 protection against UVA and UVB. It describes finishes including solid, gradient, matte and mirrored, while treatments such as polarization vary by model. Cartier says protective-filter information is indicated on the right side of each model’s frame. These are brand statements about their products; confirm the specifications for the frame you plan to buy.
Fashion sunglasses are not a substitute for eyewear rated for a specific hazard or task. CHANEL warns that its sunglasses are not suitable for looking directly at the sun or a solar eclipse, protecting against tanning-bed UV, impact protection, or driving at night or in poor visibility. For impact-rated or other task-specific eyewear, use equipment rated for that task.

There is no basis here for ranking luxury frame materials overall. Maintenance depends on the material and finish, so follow the maker’s instructions before applying a cleaner. CHANEL directs owners to the care booklet supplied with the frame and notes that special materials may need additional care. Ray-Ban recommends storing eyewear in a case and cleaning with a soft microfiber cloth and/or a neutral cleaner for its products.
Best Value
Check how adjustments and prescription lens fitting are handled before you commit. According to CHANEL’s FAQ, prescription lenses for its frames can be fitted only at authorized CHANEL eyewear retailers. Brand-specific fit tools, retailer services and terms may vary by region and model, so confirm what is available for the frame you want.
