Choose a Royal Oak Offshore by trying the exact reference, not by relying on its diameter or a wrist-size rule. Case thickness, shape, pushers, strap configuration and how the watch moves with your wrist all affect fit. Audemars Piguet does not publish a wrist-circumference cutoff for the models discussed here, so an in-person try-on is the surest way to judge comfort.
Start with the exact reference
“42 mm” and “43 mm” identify different Offshore models; they do not promise that one will wear only slightly larger than the other. References from different generations can vary in thickness, material, construction and strap arrangement. Compare the full reference and its specifications before drawing a conclusion about fit.

The 42 mm example is thicker than the 43 mm one. That does not establish which will feel larger: the watches also differ in material and construction, and those factors can affect their presence on the wrist. These are examples, not a sizing guide for every Offshore. Dimensions and water-resistance figures are the manufacturer’s published specifications; publication dates are not stated on the product pages.

Check how the watch sits and moves
Try on the precise reference if possible. With the watch secured comfortably, check these points during ordinary wrist movement:
- Case span: Look at whether the case extends beyond the top surface of your wrist. The listed diameter alone does not show how the complete case will sit.
- Contact and movement: Bend and turn your wrist, and check whether the case edges or chronograph pushers press into your hand.
- Thickness: Notice how the watch feels on the wrist and whether it catches or feels uncomfortable under a sleeve.
- Strap adjustment: The strap should hold the watch securely without pinching. Strap type and configuration differ by reference, so judge the supplied setup rather than assuming another Offshore’s strap will behave the same way.
These are practical checks, not manufacturer-published fit thresholds. If you are unsure, ask an Audemars Piguet boutique or AP House whether you can try the reference you are considering.

How to use wrist size—and its limits
A wrist measurement can help you describe what you are looking for, but the cited Audemars Piguet pages do not specify a circumference at which a particular Offshore will or will not fit. No universal cutoff follows from the case diameters. Wrist shape, case geometry, thickness and strap adjustment all matter, so avoid treating circumference as a pass-or-fail test.

The Offshore collection has used a range of sizes over time. Audemars Piguet’s current collection pages include 37 mm models, while its heritage material documents historical 30 mm, 38 mm and 42 mm variants. Those figures refer to different models and eras; they are not interchangeable fit references.

The heritage entry for model 25770 says its 42 mm version was marketed for almost two decades and appealed to buyers who liked oversized watches. It also notes that some found the 25721 could seem heavy on the wrist. That is a historical observation about those specific models, not a rule for every wearer or every Offshore.
For a pre-owned watch, confirm the complete reference, generation and actual configuration. If it has a replacement strap, verify that strap’s fit for that specific watch rather than assuming compatibility across references.

- Case dimensions: Look at both diameter and thickness, not diameter alone.
- Material and construction: Note differences that could change how each watch feels.
