How to Compare Step Counts Between a Casio F-B100W and a Galaxy Watch

A repeatable, manually counted walk is a better comparison than two daily totals. Here’s how to account for update delays, fit, movement, and Samsung Health sources.

To compare a Casio F-B100W with a Galaxy Watch, walk the same measured route while manually counting continuous steps, then compare each watch’s own reading with that reference. Repeat the walk and allow for the Galaxy Watch’s update delay. The available manufacturer guidance does not establish that either watch is more accurate overall; different counts can reflect how each device is worn, detects movement, and updates its display.

What each watch’s step count represents

Casio F-B100W

Casio says the F-B100W uses a built-in accelerometer to detect body movement and automatically count steps during activities such as walking and jogging. Its LCD shows daily steps and goal progress, and the CASIO WATCHES app receives step-count data for a life log. Those are product features, not independent accuracy results. Casio’s F-B100W product information describes the tracker; Casio UK’s specifications list a display range of 0 to 999,999 steps, goals from 1,000 to 50,000 in 1,000-step increments, and an hourly graph covering the previous seven hours. A broad display range or goal setting says nothing by itself about counting accuracy.

Galaxy Watch

Samsung describes the Galaxy Watch count as algorithmic: the display may not update until the watch detects a sequence of continuous steps. Samsung’s general support guidance says counting can begin after ten continuous steps, so a short delay is expected. The exact model generation and software version matter; check the documentation for your model rather than assuming every Galaxy Watch behaves identically. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance explains the delay and offers a 50-step check.

Why the two readings may differ

Movement and watch position

A wrist-worn tracker estimates steps from motion, so ordinary movement does not always map neatly to walking. Casio’s official step-count guide for Module 3587 warns that certain movement patterns can produce missed or extra steps: shuffling, stop-start walking, very slow or fast movement, pushing a cart or stroller, frequent arm movement, vehicle vibration, and walks lasting ten seconds or less. It recommends wearing the watch face outward with the band secured and says the count resets at midnight. The guide is for Module 3587; confirm your F-B100W’s exact module and regional manual before treating every listed condition as specific to your watch. Casio’s watch support guides provide module-specific documentation.

Samsung likewise identifies environmental or skin conditions, limited hand movement while exercising, raising an arm to look at the watch, and vehicle or train vibration as factors that can affect its count. Samsung Support Singapore notes that sensor signal attenuation and turning at the end of a short path can affect its suggested test, and that a different reading from another device can result from where the devices are worn. Samsung Support Singapore’s pedometer guidance gives its test instructions and explains position-related differences.

Samsung Health may combine sources

If a phone is linked to the Galaxy Watch, Samsung Health can show “All steps,” a combined total, or “Mobile phone,” the phone’s count. Neither view should be mistaken for the watch-only result unless the selected source is verified. Check the data source, connection, and app update status if totals appear inconsistent. Samsung’s Samsung Health support page describes source selection; it was last updated on 22 August 2022. Samsung Knowledge’s step-tracker guidance also discusses estimates, device placement, and cross-device totals.

How to make a fair comparison

  1. Set up both watches. Wear each snugly in its intended position, note which wrist it is on, and avoid changing the fit during a trial. Casio advises a secure band; Samsung recommends walking naturally rather than raising the watch arm to check it mid-walk.
  2. Check the starting readings. Record each watch’s own displayed count before you begin. On the Galaxy Watch, verify that Samsung Health is showing the watch’s device-specific count, not “All steps” or the phone’s total.
  3. Choose a simple route and reference count. Walk a long, straight, measured route and manually count a continuous sequence of steps. Avoid turns, stops, shuffling, pushing a cart, and unnecessary arm movement. These conditions reduce the movement and position differences both manufacturers identify as potential sources of error.
  4. Finish the walk, then wait for the display. Samsung’s troubleshooting check uses 50 continuous steps on a long, straight trajectory while walking naturally. Treat this as a troubleshooting check, not laboratory validation. Allow the Galaxy Watch time to update before recording its final count.
  5. Repeat the same trial. For each run, compare the absolute difference between the watch’s change in steps and your manual count. Also note whether the result is consistent across runs. Do not combine a controlled walk with everyday activity: if you want to understand daily-life performance, test stop-start walking or cart pushing separately.
  6. Record the conditions. Note each model, firmware and app version, wrist, route, reference count, and whether both watches were worn at once. Wearing them together can affect fit or movement; swapping wrists for additional trials can reveal whether placement matters, but does not eliminate wrist-side effects.

How to interpret the result

Look at absolute difference from the manual count, consistency across repeated walks, display-update delay, and how each device responds to everyday movements. The manufacturer guidance identifies possible influences but does not rank the F-B100W and Galaxy Watch on any of these measures. A single short walk cannot establish general accuracy, and no independent head-to-head accuracy result for this exact pairing is established by the cited sources. The defensible conclusion is about your repeated trials under stated conditions—not a universal winner.
