Call or email before you travel or send the watch. Give the provider the reference number, any known service history, and a clear description of the problem. Ask it to confirm that it accepts Oysterquartz watches and whether your watch will be serviced locally or routed to another workshop.
How to screen a watchmaker
Confirm Oysterquartz-specific experience
For an independent watchmaker, ask for concrete experience servicing the Oysterquartz line and experience with the exact repair you need. General Rolex experience alone does not establish familiarity with this model. Ask what diagnosis or repair the watchmaker proposes and how that work relates to the symptoms you described.

Ask about parts, testing, and preservation
Before authorizing work, clarify how the provider will source any required parts and what happens if a part is unavailable. Ask what testing is included, including movement checks and water-resistance testing where appropriate. If preserving the watch’s original components or finish matters to you, say so explicitly and ask whether removed parts can be returned and whether case or bracelet refinishing is proposed.
Get the scope and terms in writing
Request an itemized or clearly scoped estimate, an expected turnaround, and the written warranty or service guarantee. Confirm what the estimate includes, what could trigger additional work or cost, and whether the provider will seek your approval before proceeding. These terms vary by provider; Rolex’s policy should not be assumed to apply to an independent watchmaker.

What Rolex service includes—and what to confirm
Rolex describes a full service as separating the movement, case, and bracelet; dismantling and examining movement components; cleaning, reassembling, and lubricating the movement; checking precision; servicing the case and bracelet; and carrying out technical and water-resistance checks. The provider’s assessment will determine what work your particular watch needs.
Rolex says it provides an estimate after assessment and before service starts, with cost depending on the watch’s condition and required work. Its FAQ gives a general timeframe of at least four to six weeks for a complete overhaul, depending on condition; this is not a guaranteed Oysterquartz turnaround. Ask the service location for the estimate and timing for your watch.

Rolex says parts and labour availability is assured for every watch for at least 35 years after it is withdrawn from the catalogue. The brand also says its Restoration Atelier can recreate components that are no longer available after that period. This is a general policy, not confirmation that a particular Oysterquartz component is currently in stock or can be supplied for a specific repair. Ask the provider to verify availability for the work proposed.
For service performed in a Rolex World Service workshop, Rolex describes an international two-year service guarantee covering parts and labour. Confirm the terms that apply to the service you are offered. Rolex’s FAQ also recommends periodic professional servicing approximately every 10 years, depending on the model and real-life usage; treat this as general guidance rather than a diagnosis or fixed Oysterquartz interval.
