If your Apple Watch is dead or offline, open Find My, select it under Devices, and check the map and last update. A depleted Watch may leave only a last known location, which Apple says Find My may display for up to seven days; that is not live tracking. You can also turn on Lost Mode and request Play Sound, but a sound request may wait until the Watch reconnects.
One-minute recovery checklist
- Open Find My on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, or go to icloud.com/find.
- Choose Devices and select your Apple Watch.
- Check the map and last-update time. Treat a displayed location as the last report, not proof of where the Watch is now.
- If it may be nearby, request Play Sound.
- Turn on Notify When Found if available.
- Mark the Watch as lost or turn on Lost Mode, and add contact information if prompted.
- Retrace your route from the time of the last report. Do not remove the Watch from your Apple Account.
Dead battery, offline, and last known location
A Watch whose battery has run out cannot be relied on to send a new location or play a sound. Find My may still show its last known location. An offline Watch may reconnect later, so a queued request can take effect then. Apple says a supported device may be locatable while powered off, but this depends on support and is not a guarantee for every Apple Watch or a completely depleted battery.

How to use Find My
- Open Find My and tap Devices.
- Select your Apple Watch and review the map and last-update time.
- If the Watch may be close, tap Play Sound.
- Turn on Notify When Found if the option appears.
- Choose Lost Mode or Mark As Lost, follow the prompts, and provide contact information.

What Sound Pending means
If Find My shows Sound Pending, the Watch is offline and the sound request has not played yet. Apple says the sound plays the next time the device connects to Wi-Fi or cellular. A pending request cannot make a fully drained Watch ring.

Use iCloud.com/find if you have no other Apple device
- Go to icloud.com/find and sign in with the Apple Account associated with the Watch.
- Select the Apple Watch in the device list.
- Check the map and last-update information.
- Use the available lost-device controls and follow the prompts to mark the Watch as lost.
If Find My has no current location, it may still show a last known location. Apple says that after more than seven days since the device last sent its location through the Find My network, Find My can no longer display a location. See Apple’s Find My location guide.
What Lost Mode does
Mark the Watch as lost while you search rather than waiting for it to come online. Apple says Lost Mode locks the Watch and suspends Apple Pay. If the Watch is offline, the request can remain pending; the contact message appears when it comes back online. Do not assume that the Watch receives the message immediately.

Retrace your steps using the timestamp
A last known location is a clue, not a live or exact locator. Note the time shown in Find My, think about where you were then, and search along the route since that point. Check pockets, bags, laundry, bedding, furniture, vehicles, and recent venues. Contact local lost-and-found desks if the Watch may have been left in a public place.
If a map location suggests theft, do not confront anyone based on a pin. Save the location and timestamp and contact local law enforcement.

Keep the Watch linked to your Apple Account
Do not remove a missing Apple Watch from your Apple Account as a recovery step. Keep Lost Mode active and use Find My to check for updates. If you did not enable Find My before the Watch went missing, enabling it afterward will not locate it retroactively.
Check Find My settings for the future
Apple says a Watch paired with an iPhone is automatically set up for Find My when Find My iPhone is turned on. Check that Find My network is enabled for the Watch before it goes missing. Apple’s Find My setup instructions explain the settings.
