If it was already paired but stopped syncing, also check the phone’s internet connection. Restart both devices before considering a factory reset, which erases everything stored on the watch.
First, identify the connection problem
There are two common situations: the watch has never finished pairing, or it paired successfully but stopped exchanging data. For a first-time setup, use the Google Pixel Watch app and follow its pairing flow. For a watch that was already paired, first restore the phone-watch connection and check that the phone is online.

Pixel Watch 5 requires a Google Account, the Google Pixel Watch app, and a compatible Android phone. Google specifies compatibility with most phones running Android 12.0 or newer; a phone outside those requirements is not a supported setup. See Google’s Pixel Watch compatibility requirements.
Check the phone, watch, and connection settings
- Charge the watch and install available updates. Check for updates to the watch, phone, and Google Pixel Watch app. Google’s setup and connection guidance recommends checking that devices are charged and up to date.
- Turn on Bluetooth and bring the devices close together. For Fast Pair, enable Bluetooth on the phone and keep it within 0.5 m (1.6 ft) of the watch.
- Enable location and Wi-Fi. Confirm the phone can access the internet through Wi-Fi or mobile data. Turn off airplane mode on both devices.
- Check the app permission. Allow Nearby permission for the Google Pixel Watch app. Permission labels and menu locations may vary by Android version.
- Retry setup or check the app status. Follow the Pixel Watch app’s setup flow for a new pairing. When the connection succeeds, Google says the app displays “Connected.”
Google’s connection troubleshooting steps cover these checks. If the watch is paired but data still will not update, make sure the phone is online; a “Network error” in the app can indicate that the phone has no internet connection.

If the watch is paired but still will not sync
Check the Wi-Fi network
The watch can connect to Wi-Fi networks saved on the phone, but it cannot use networks that require a web sign-in page before access, as some hotel and coffee-shop networks do. It also cannot connect to 5 GHz Wi-Fi. See Google’s Pixel Watch connectivity guidance.
Account for LTE models away from the phone
An LTE Pixel Watch may connect through its carrier network when it is away from the phone instead of relying on Bluetooth. Connectivity depends on signal strength, and an active carrier plan is required. Google describes these conditions in its connectivity guidance.

Restart the watch before resetting it
If the watch responds to touch
- Press and hold the crown for three seconds.
- Scroll to Restart and select it.
- Wait until the watch has fully restarted, bring it near the phone, and retry the connection.
These are Google’s recommended restart steps for setup problems in its connection guidance.
If the screen is blank or unresponsive
Hold the crown and side button together for about 35 seconds or longer, until the G logo appears. This is the recovery step in Google’s guidance for a Pixel Watch that will not turn on or respond.

Factory-reset only after the reversible checks fail
If the watch still will not pair after checking compatibility, settings, internet, and restarting, Google recommends a factory reset. A reset erases all apps, settings, and data on the watch. Use one of these paths:
- On the watch: Settings > Disconnect & reset.
- In the phone app: Google Pixel Watch app > System > Reset and unpair watch.
After the reset, follow the app’s setup instructions to pair again. Google’s reset and recovery instructions say you may need to sign in with the most recent PIN or Google Account login during re-pairing.

If the reset does not resolve pairing
Google’s phone-side recovery sequence is to uninstall the Pixel Watch app, forget any listed watch under the phone’s Connected devices, restart the phone, bring the devices together, and try setup again. If the watch still will not reset, Fastboot recovery is a later option and also wipes watch data. Contact Google support if the documented recovery steps fail; the full instructions are in Google’s recovery guidance.
When the charging dock matters
Use the Pixel Watch 5 Quick Charge Dock for charging; Google lists it as compatible with both 41 mm and 45 mm Pixel Watch 5 models. The dock is relevant if the watch needs charging or remains unresponsive during recovery—not as a fix for Bluetooth, account, or phone-internet problems. Google’s Quick Charge Dock specifications list Watch 5 compatibility, and its charging guidance says Pixel Watch 4 and 5 should use the included Quick Charge Dock.
