To set up a Google Pixel Watch 5, pair it with an Android phone running Android 12.0 or newer using the Google Pixel Watch app or the phone’s Fast Pair prompt. iPhones are not supported. Have a Google Account and internet access ready, then confirm that the code on the watch matches the one on your phone before tapping Pair.
What you need before pairing
- A compatible Android phone running Android 12.0 or newer. Pixel Watch 5 does not support iPhone pairing. Google’s compatibility information lists the supported phone requirements.
- A Google Account and an internet connection through Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- The latest Google Pixel Watch app, available on the phone.
- The charging cable included with the watch purchase. Charge both devices before beginning.
Attach your chosen band, turn on Bluetooth and location on the phone, and allow the Pixel Watch app the permissions it requests. To turn on the watch, press and hold the crown for about three seconds.

Pair the watch with your Android phone
- Bring the devices together. Keep the watch near the phone, with Bluetooth enabled. For Fast Pair, Google specifies a distance of no more than 0.5 m (1.6 ft).
- Start setup. If a Fast Pair prompt appears on the phone, tap it. If it does not appear, open the Google Pixel Watch app and begin setup there. Both routes continue in the app.
- Select the watch and verify the code. Follow the app prompts to select your Pixel Watch. Compare the pairing codes shown on the phone and watch. Tap Pair only if they match; pairing may take a few minutes.
- Sign in and complete account prompts. Sign in to your Google Account and follow any verification and terms prompts. For the limited-warranty check, select the country where the device was purchased.
- Choose whether to restore a backup. Restore a backup if you want to carry over a previous setup, or choose “Don’t restore” to start fresh.
- Set the watch orientation. Choose the wrist you wear it on and the crown orientation.
- Finish setup. Choose “Start using your watch” or continue configuring optional features. When setup completes, the Pixel Watch app shows “Connected.”
Which setup options are optional?
Basic phone pairing does not require LTE, Wallet, health features, safety features, a screen lock, or installing additional apps. You can configure these during setup or later. Cellular service is a separate choice: Google says cellular data and texting require a compatible phone pairing plus an existing phone number and texting provider. LTE availability depends on carrier support.

Restoring a backup is also optional. Choose it to carry over a previous setup, or select “Don’t restore” for a fresh start.

If the phone can’t find the watch or pairing stalls
- Check the basics. Confirm both devices have charge, Bluetooth is on, location is enabled, Wi-Fi is on, and the phone has an internet connection. Install available updates for the phone, watch firmware, and Pixel Watch app.
- Move the devices closer. Keep them within 0.5 m (1.6 ft) while trying Fast Pair.
- Open the app if Fast Pair does not appear. Launch the Google Pixel Watch app and start setup from there.
- Restart the watch if the codes differ or setup remains stuck. Hold the crown for three seconds, scroll to Restart, and wait for the watch to start fully. Then bring the phone and watch together and try again.
If Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or LTE is not working
- Make sure Bluetooth is on and Airplane Mode is off on both devices.
- Check that the phone has internet access and that the Pixel Watch app has nearby-device permission.
- The watch cannot join Wi-Fi networks that require a sign-in web page, which is common on some hotel and coffee-shop networks. It also cannot connect to 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks.

A factory reset erases the watch’s apps, settings, and data. Try the checks above and restart the watch before resetting it. If you need to proceed, use either path:

- On the watch: Settings > Disconnect & reset.
- In the Pixel Watch app: System > Reset and unpair watch.
After the reset, repeat the pairing steps. Google says you may need the most recent PIN or Google Account login when setting up the watch again. See Google’s troubleshooting guidance.
