If the prompt keeps returning, disable only Apple Watch Keyboard notifications at Settings > Notifications > Apple Watch Keyboard. That hides the recurring alert without turning off ordinary Apple Watch or Messages notifications, but it may not remove the underlying trigger.
What “Apple Watch Keyboard Input” means
This is a normal Continuity feature, not a separate keyboard app. When a text-entry field is active on Apple Watch, the paired iPhone can offer its larger keyboard. Tap the notification to type or dictate on the iPhone, then send the text to the watch. Apple documents this workflow, along with QuickPath and predictive text, in its watchOS keyboard guide.
A single alert after opening a message reply, search box, password field or similar control is expected. Repeated alerts every few seconds, alerts while the watch is idle, or prompts that continue after you close the field indicate a likely stuck or repeatedly retriggered input state. Apple’s public documentation does not identify a definitive cause for that symptom.
Stop the prompt immediately
Disable only Apple Watch Keyboard notifications
- On the iPhone, open Settings.
- Tap Notifications.
- Select Apple Watch Keyboard.
- Turn off Allow Notifications.
This is the narrowest workaround: it suppresses the iPhone’s keyboard handoff alert while leaving other notification categories alone. To restore the feature, return to the same screen and turn notifications back on. The dedicated entry may appear only after iOS has received a keyboard notification; if it is missing, generate the prompt once from a genuine text field on the watch and check again.

Mute an alert from Notification Center
When the prompt is visible, swipe left and tap More, where available, to mute or disable it. Options vary by notification type and iOS release, so the dedicated Settings path is preferable for a persistent problem. Apple describes the general controls in its Apple Watch notification guide.
Try to clear the recurring input session
- Look at the watch and close any open message reply, search field, password field or other text-entry screen. Cancel the entry if necessary.
- On the iPhone, tap the keyboard notification once, dismiss the resulting input screen, and then clear the notification.
- Consider whether a third-party watch app is reopening a text field. Quit that app or remove it temporarily to test.
- Restart the Apple Watch normally, then restart the iPhone. Restart both even if restarting the phone alone had no effect; user reports often identify the watch as the device continuing to advertise the session.
- Check the behavior before changing broader notification settings.
Community reports describe recurring prompts stopping after a watch restart, but this is anecdotal and not a guaranteed repair. Reports of the symptom include repeated alerts while idle and recommendations to restart and update both devices.
Keep Messages and other watch alerts working
Do not turn off every Apple Watch notification as a first step. Apple provides app-level controls such as Allow Notifications, Send to Notification Center and Notifications Off; mirrored iPhone alerts can also be selected individually. See Apple’s notification settings instructions.
- Open the iPhone’s Watch app.
- Tap My Watch > Notifications.
- Open Messages and confirm your preferred setting, such as Mirror my iPhone or Allow Notifications.
- Check any other app whose alerts disappeared and restore its desired option.
Apple Watch Keyboard, Messages, general watch-app alerts and Announce Notifications are separate concepts. A community thread reports confusion in which changing keyboard-related settings appeared to affect Messages; that is not established as normal behavior and may reflect a software-version or pairing issue. Verify Messages separately using this reported case as context, not proof.

Update both devices
Record the iPhone model, iOS version, Apple Watch model and watchOS version. Then install all available updates for both devices and restart again. Updates can contain fixes for unexpected behavior, but Apple has not identified a particular release as fixing this notification symptom. Menu names can vary by version, language and region.
Keyboard availability itself varies by Apple Watch model and language; Apple lists those limits in its model and language guidance.
If “Apple Watch Keyboard” is missing
- The category may not be exposed until a recent keyboard notification exists.
- You may be looking under the general Apple Watch entry instead of the separate keyboard category.
- An iOS update may have moved or renamed the control.
- Family Setup or a managed watch can provide different notification controls.
- Confirm the title: an Apple TV or another Apple device can generate a similar keyboard handoff.
Apple explains general iPhone-to-watch notification routing at this support page. Notifications generally appear on the iPhone when it is unlocked and on the watch when the phone is locked or asleep, subject to watch lock and connection state.
When the setting is off but alerts continue
- Clear any existing copy in Notification Center.
- Close all watch text fields.
- Restart the watch and iPhone so the new setting propagates.
- Read the exact notification title and check whether it names Apple TV or another device.
- Reopen Settings > Notifications and confirm that the dedicated keyboard category—not the entire Watch app—was disabled.
Focus or Do Not Disturb can filter alerts, but they do not repair an Apple Watch keyboard session. They are broad notification controls rather than a targeted fix.

Force restart and escalation
Use a force restart only if the watch is frozen or a normal restart is impossible. Community guidance commonly says to hold the Digital Crown and side button together for about 10 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears. Do not do this while watchOS is actively updating. See Apple’s current restart instructions for the exact behavior of your model; button procedures can change.
If the prompt persists after notification suppression, restarts and updates, check Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, pairing and Focus settings, then contact Apple Support. Back up the iPhone and confirm Health and Activity data are synchronized before considering unpairing. Unpairing and setting up the watch again is a last resort, especially if other notifications are also failing.

iPad and other-device cases
Apple Community users have reported the same style of prompt on iPad. On the iPad, check Settings > Notifications for Apple Watch Keyboard, if that category is available; labels differ by iPadOS version. Confirm the named device before applying a watch-specific fix. Will turning it off disable dictation or Scribble?
No. Those are watch input methods; the setting disables the iPhone-side Apple Watch Keyboard notification. Keep them enabled unless you have a separate reason to change them.
Can I disable it temporarily?
Yes. Turn off Allow Notifications for Apple Watch Keyboard, then re-enable it whenever you want to type on the iPhone for a watch text field.
Is persistent prompting definitely a hardware fault?
No. The behavior is reported as bug-like, but Apple has not published a confirmed cause, affected release or hardware diagnosis.
What if it returns after every update?
Document both devices’ versions, repeat the paired restart, verify notification categories and contact Apple Support if the pattern continues.
