Measure your wrist circumference where the watch will sit: wrap a flexible tape just above or behind the wrist bone, snugly but without tightening it, and record the result in millimetres. No tape? Use a paper strip and ruler. A 36 mm case is within some brands’ recommendations for smaller wrists, but circumference alone cannot predict fit—check the watch’s lug-to-lug length and your comfort preference as well.
Measure your wrist circumference
- Find the watch position. Place the tape just above or behind your wrist bone, at the spot where you expect to wear the watch. TAG Heuer’s guide recommends measuring just above the bone. TAG Heuer’s wrist-measuring guidance
- Wrap the tape comfortably. Keep a flexible tape against your skin, snug but not tight enough to compress it. If you do not have one, wrap a narrow strip of paper around your wrist, mark where it overlaps, then lay it flat and measure it with a ruler. Citizen Watch US’s size guide
- Record the circumference in millimetres. This is your wrist circumference, not its width. Use the measurement as a comparison point for watch sizing and band fit, not as a promise that a particular case will suit you.
What your measurement says about a 36 mm watch
Brand sizing charts offer useful starting points, but their ranges differ and are recommendations rather than a universal fit standard.

Both charts include 36 mm in the suggested case-diameter range for the stated wrist sizes. That does not mean everyone within those measurements will find every 36 mm watch comfortable or attractive. Check the watch’s footprint, not just its diameter
The 36 mm figure describes the case diameter; it does not tell you how far the watch extends across your wrist. Lug-to-lug length—the distance from one end of the lugs to the other—is a key dimension to check. TAG Heuer advises that it should not exceed the flat width of your wrist. Compare the specific watch’s lug-to-lug measurement with the flat top of your wrist, then consider how much coverage and overhang you find comfortable. TAG Heuer’s case-measurement guidance
