Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To put pictures on a smartwatch, use its companion app—but first decide whether you want to browse synced photos or use a picture as a watch face. The available features and steps depend on the exact model: Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch support photo viewing or sync workflows, Pixel Watch and HUAWEI offer photo watch faces on supported setups, and Garmin Face It availability should be checked for your device.
These are different functions: syncing a gallery does not necessarily create a photo watch face, and a photo face does not necessarily make your full photo library browsable.
Before you start: identify the watch, phone, and photo destination
“Smartwatch” covers devices with different apps and capabilities. Check these details before transferring pictures:
- Exact watch model: feature availability varies within each brand.
- Paired phone: confirm that your phone is compatible with the watch and is the one currently paired.
- Companion app: Apple Watch uses the Apple Watch app; Pixel Watch uses the Google Pixel Watch app and Google Photos; Galaxy Watch uses Galaxy Wearable; HUAWEI uses Huawei Health; Garmin uses Connect IQ Store for Face It.
- Destination: decide whether you want a photo gallery or album to browse, or a photo-based face shown on the watch screen.
Update the relevant apps and watch software. Keep the phone near the watch and Bluetooth enabled. Grant the companion app access to Photos, Gallery, or Google Photos when prompted. If an image is cloud-only and unavailable to the selection screen, make it available locally first.

View synced photos on Apple Watch
- In the Apple Watch Photos app, select a Memory, Featured Photos, or an album synced to the watch.
- Tap a photo. Swipe left or right to browse other images.
- Turn the Digital Crown to zoom or drag to pan. Double-tap to fill the screen or show the whole image.
To choose which album is synced and manage storage, use the Apple Watch app’s photo settings. See Apple’s photo-viewing guide and separate album and storage guide.
Use pictures as an Apple Watch face
Open the Apple Watch app on the iPhone and check Face Gallery for a Photos face. Select the available pictures and layout, then add the face. The exact options may depend on the watchOS version. You can also create a face from a photo on the watch if that option is available for your setup.
Google Pixel Watch
Google documents a Photos watch face for Pixel Watch, configured with the Pixel Watch app and Google Photos. The documented selection limit is up to 30 photos (Google Pixel Watch Help; year not stated). This is a photo-face feature, not a general transfer of a browsable local image gallery.
Create a Pixel Watch photo face
- Update the Pixel Watch app on the phone and Google Photos on both the phone and watch.
- Open the Google Pixel Watch app on the phone.
- Go to Watch faces, add a face, and choose Photos.
- Select up to 30 photos.
- Tap Add, then Save.
Google also documents an on-watch route: touch and hold the current face, add Photos, open Google Photos on the watch when prompted, and select photos on the phone. Follow Google’s Photos watch-face guide for current details.

Samsung Galaxy Watch
Samsung Galaxy Watch can sync pictures or albums through Galaxy Wearable, but menu names and model support vary. Check the Samsung support instructions for your region and model. The current Samsung Gulf guide describes Gallery sync; an older Singapore guide provides an alternate manual-copy path.
Sync albums with Galaxy Wearable
- Open Galaxy Wearable and open the watch’s Gallery settings.
- Enable Auto sync.
- Choose Albums to sync and confirm the selection.
- Allow the watch to sync under the conditions specified by Samsung for your model.
Samsung Gulf Support (2026) says automatic sync requires more than 15% battery, at least 50 MB of available storage, and power-saving mode off. Its guide lists Galaxy Watch4, Watch5, and Watch6 series among supported models; check the applicable page for your watch. See Samsung’s current Galaxy Watch Gallery guide.

Alternate manual image-copy path
An older Samsung Singapore guide describes this route: Galaxy Wearable > Settings > Add content to your watch > Copy images. Select images and tap Done. The same guide describes album sync under Images and Auto sync. Menus may differ on newer watches. Samsung Singapore Support (2022) gives a 15% battery threshold for automatic sync; this is the older guide’s figure, distinct from the 2026 Gulf guide’s requirement. See Samsung’s image import and export instructions.

Garmin
Garmin confirms that the Connect IQ Store app can create watch faces using Face It. The support information reviewed for this article does not establish a current model list or a reliable step-by-step photo-selection procedure. Check Connect IQ Store and Garmin’s current support or owner documentation for your exact watch before relying on Face It.
See Garmin’s Face It support reference. Do not assume every Garmin watch supports the feature.

Troubleshooting checklist
- Check the exact model. Confirm that it supports photo viewing, album sync, or a photo face—the function you actually want.
- Check apps and pairing. Update the companion and required photo apps, and confirm the watch is connected to the phone you are using.
- Review permissions and image availability. Allow photo access and make cloud-only images available to the app.
- For Samsung auto-sync, check available storage, battery, and power-saving mode against the relevant Samsung support page.
- For HUAWEI, confirm the model is supported and the image uses a listed format.
- For Garmin, verify Face It support for the exact device in Connect IQ Store or current Garmin documentation.
- Retry after the basics. Reopen the app, reconnect Bluetooth, and restart the phone and watch if the supported feature still does not appear.

Can I browse pictures and use one as a watch face with the same feature?

How many photos can I add to a Pixel Watch Photos face?
