How to Reduce Screen Brightness on the Garmin fēnix 8

Use the fēnix 8 display settings to choose a lower brightness range. The exact controls vary by edition, and ambient light, backlight, and battery settings can also affect what you see.

To lower brightness on a Garmin fēnix 8, open Settings → System → Display → Brightness, then select a lower level or range. Garmin notes that menu labels and instructions can vary by model, so check the manual for your exact fēnix 8 edition if the path differs.

Lower brightness from the watch settings

  1. Open the watch’s settings or menu.

  2. Go to Settings → System → Display → Brightness. This is Garmin’s general route; the exact controls may differ by model. Garmin’s ambient-light sensor guidance describes the route and brightness behavior.

  3. Select a lower brightness level or range, then check readability in the lighting where you normally use the watch. Garmin says supported watches can adjust brightness automatically according to ambient light; on the fēnix 8, brightness is limited to the top of the first level.

If you do not see these labels, use the Display Setting instructions in the owner’s manual for your exact model. The fēnix 8 family includes different screen types and sizes, and Garmin’s support catalog lists separate manuals. For example, a 51 mm AMOLED manual is marked Revision C, February 2026; that revision should not be assumed to apply to every edition. Check Garmin’s support catalog for the matching fēnix 8 manual.

Use the LIGHT button for quick backlight control

For a quick backlight action, Garmin’s fēnix 8 Solar Edition getting-started material identifies the LIGHT button as the control to turn the backlight on or off. It also documents covering the display with a palm to dim it. That palm gesture is documented for the Solar edition, so do not assume it works the same way on every fēnix 8 variant. See Garmin’s fēnix 8 Solar Edition getting-started guidance.

Brightness, Always On, and battery use are separate controls

Lowering brightness changes how bright the display is; it does not necessarily stop the screen from remaining visible. On AMOLED models, Always On is a separate display setting, and Garmin says using it shortens battery life. If your main concern is runtime, review that setting as well as brightness. Garmin’s Always On guidance explains the trade-off.
