For the best chance of preserving water resistance, have the battery replaced by the watch’s original retailer or a Casio-authorized service center, then request a water-resistance inspection or test. G-SHOCK watches do not all use the same battery, and opening and resealing a case does not prove it remains water-resistant. Why battery replacement can affect water resistance
The case back and its gasket help keep water out. Opening the case interrupts that seal; closing it again is not proof that the gasket is undamaged, correctly seated, or that the watch will withstand its rated water pressure. Casio says battery replacement requires special tools and recommends inspection by a trained technician whenever the battery is replaced. Casio’s module 3567 manual says to leave replacement to the original retailer or an authorized service center, while its module 5553 precautions describe technician inspection.

Choose a battery by the exact watch model or module
G-SHOCK is a product family, not a single battery specification. Find the model or module number on the watch case, case back, or its manual, and check that model’s specifications before a battery is selected. When arranging service, ask the provider to confirm the correct battery for your exact module rather than relying on a generic G-SHOCK battery listing.
What to request from a service provider

- Inspection of the gasket and replacement if its condition calls for it.
- A water-resistance inspection or test after the case is closed; ask what test is performed and whether the provider can confirm the result.
- Any service warranty, exclusions, or limitations that apply to your watch.
Service packages vary by country. For example, Casio Malaysia’s service information lists a module current-consumption test, water-pressure test, and gasket replacement as inclusions, and gives a listed service-center turnaround of 1–2 days. Those details are regional, may change, and should not be assumed for other countries. Do not force the case open if you see a cracked case or resin component, damaged threads, or signs of moisture inside the watch. Casio’s module 3567 manual says visible cracking or another abnormality indicating damage may lead Casio to return the watch without the requested service. Arrange an inspection instead, since damage can affect both safe servicing and the case seal.
Gasket maintenance and ongoing checks
Casio gives general guidance to replace the gasket about once every two or three years. This is an approximate maintenance interval, not a guarantee that a gasket remains sound until then or a substitute for checking its condition during service. The interval appears in Casio’s module 5553 precautions.
After replacement, rely on the service provider’s inspection or test rather than the fact that the case back looks closed. If the watch is important for swimming or other water use, ask the provider to explain what was tested and what the result means for your specific model.
