Find the caliber number on your Astron’s case back, then follow the matching Seiko manual. Astron controls differ by caliber: on some models, “home time” means selecting a time zone; on supported dual-time 5X models, it can mean swapping which time appears on the main and sub-dials. Daylight saving time (DST) may be a separate setting, so do not assume that changing the time zone also changes DST.
Identify your Astron’s caliber first
Check the case back for the caliber-case number and use the Seiko manual for that exact caliber. A single button sequence cannot be applied safely to every Astron: the 8X82, 8X22, 8X42 and 5X models have differing controls and display behavior. Seiko’s official GPS Solar guidance and the manual for your caliber are the right references for model-specific operation.

The number also matters because time-zone data stored in a watch may not reflect later changes to official local-time rules. The 8X82 manual advises manually selecting the appropriate zone and then manually adjusting the time when rules have changed since the watch’s data was configured. Consult your own caliber’s manual for its procedure.
On caliber 8X82, check the zone and DST setting
On an 8X82, pull the crown out to the first click to display the currently selected time zone and DST status. Push the crown back in to return to the normal display. This is a check, not a universal Astron instruction; use the corresponding manual for other calibers.
#1 Best Overall
- Includes individual box, Japanese warranty (1 year), and individual box
- Solar radio wave correction function (receives standard radio waves in Japan, China, USA, Germany, and UK)
- Full auto-calendar function (until December 31, 2099)
- Time difference correction function
- Automatic needle position correction function
On caliber 8X82, set the time zone manually
- Wait until the date has stopped moving; the 8X82 manual says the crown and buttons cannot be operated while the date is changing.
- Pull the crown out to the first click. The watch displays its current zone and DST status.
- Turn the crown to select the desired zone, using the manual’s zone list. Each turn advances or reverses the selection by one zone, depending on the direction.
- Push the crown back in to finish, then check the DST setting separately.
For the zone names and their corresponding locations, use the zone list in the Seiko 8X82 manual; do not guess based on a nearby city if its time rules differ.
On caliber 8X82, turn DST on or off
- Pull the crown out to the first click.
- Hold Button A for three seconds to enter DST setting.
- Press Button B to change the DST setting. The indicator hand shows the setting, and the hour and minute hands move by one hour.
- Push the crown back in to complete the change.
The 8X82 manual warns that starting this operation while the stopwatch is running resets it. Confirm the stopwatch is not in use before changing DST.
Time-zone selection and DST are distinct on the 8X82: selecting a zone does not itself toggle DST. The manual also notes that the watch supports a 30-minute advance during DST for the Lord Howe Island time zone. Regional DST rules, including whether and when they apply, vary and can change; check the current rule for your location.

Does GPS reception change DST automatically?
It depends on the caliber and how the zone is set. The 8X82 manual says DST must be set manually; receiving GPS signals does not automatically change its DST setting. By contrast, Seiko’s 2018 announcement for its 5X series says: “If time zone adjustment is successful, the watch will display local DST. (This will not apply when time zone is selected manually)” (Seiko’s 5X series announcement). That behavior is specific to the announced 5X series and does not establish that every Astron changes DST automatically.
If GPS reception succeeds but the displayed local time is still wrong, check both the selected time zone and DST status before trying reception again. The 8X82 manual lists these as troubleshooting checks.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.“Home time” may mean a display swap on some 5X watches
If you want to exchange which time appears on the main dial and sub-dial—not change the watch’s underlying zone setting—some supported 5X models have a time-transfer function. Press the buttons at 2 and 4 o’clock simultaneously to swap the home and destination time displays. Confirm that your model supports this function and follow its manual; this display swap is not the same as selecting a time zone. Seiko lists GPS time-zone adjustment and DST among the functions of its current HAB001J1 (5X63) model, but the exact 5X63 DST control sequence should be taken from that model’s current manual rather than inferred from the 8X82 steps.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know which Seiko Astron instructions to follow?
Find the caliber-case number on the case back and use the Seiko manual for that caliber. Button and crown procedures differ among Astron calibers.

Does an 8X82 Astron automatically change DST when it receives GPS signals?
No. The 8X82 manual says DST must be set manually. The announced 5X behavior is different and applies only to that series when GPS time-zone adjustment succeeds.
Can I set the time zone and DST in one step on an 8X82?
No. On the 8X82, selecting a time zone does not toggle DST; check and set DST separately.
