There is no single button sequence that works on every G-Shock. Setting the time, an alarm, or World Time depends on the watch’s module number, which is printed on the case back. Find that number first, then follow the matching Casio manual. The steps below use the official Casio guides for several modules as worked examples, so you can see how the controls differ and where each setting belongs.
Find your module number before you press anything
Turn the watch over and read the code on the case back. It is usually a four-digit number such as 3545, 5502 or 5553. Search Casio’s global watch manual pages for that number, because the same model name can be sold with different modules and the buttons, crown and menu structure change from one module to the next.
Set the current time and date
The clearest documented example is Casio’s guide for module 3545, “Adjusting the Current Time Setting, Module No. 3545” (https://support.casio.com/global/en/wat/manual/3545_en/AHNISYbgzbvxbo.html). Set the Home City and its summer-time setting before you change the time and date. The Home City determines the reference for the local time shown on the watch, so entering the time first can leave the displayed time off by the wrong offset.
Module 3545: Home City, then time and date
- Enter Timekeeping Mode.
- Hold A for at least two seconds until the city code flashes.
- Press B or D to select your Home City.
- Press C to move to the summer-time setting, then press D to choose the setting you need.
- Press A to finish the Home City setup.
- To change the time or date, hold A in Timekeeping Mode.
- Press C to move between flashing fields until the one you want to change is flashing.
- Change the flashing field with B or D, then press A to complete the change.
To zero the seconds, press D while the seconds are flashing. If the seconds were 30 to 59 when you reset them, the minute advances by one, so the watch rounds to the nearest minute. Module 3545 also offers a choice between 12-hour and 24-hour display.

Module 5502: crown and AT, STD or DST
Module 5502 is different. Its guide, “Setting a Home Time City, Module No. 5502” (https://support.casio.com/global/en/wat/manual/5502_en/VPCVSYxnzceeju.html), uses the crown: pull it out to its second click to choose the Home City. Press B to cycle through three settings: AT (AUTO), STD and DST. Casio states that AT (AUTO) is the factory default for cities and that it often switches between standard time and summer time without manual changes. If your watch is on AT (AUTO) and the clock changes unexpectedly at a DST boundary, that is the expected behaviour; switch to STD or DST only if you want to fix the offset manually.
Set an alarm
Alarm controls also vary by module. The worked example below is module 5553; the other modules are listed afterwards with their own official guides.
Rank #2

Module 5553: AL1 to AL4 and snooze
The guide for module 5553 is “Configuring Alarm Settings, Module No. 5553” (https://support.casio.com/global/en/wat/manual/5553_en/VPCVSYneapxclg.html).
- Enter Alarm Mode.
- Press D to choose the alarm you want to set: [AL1], [AL2], [AL3], [AL4] or [SNZ] (the snooze alarm).
- Hold A for at least two seconds until the hour flashes.
- Press B or D to set the hour.
- Press C to move to the minutes, then press B or D to set them.
- Press A to finish.
The [ALM] indicator appears when an alarm is set, so check for it on the display before you leave the watch. At the alarm time, the beeper sounds for 10 seconds; pressing any button stops it. On this module the snooze alarm can sound up to seven times at five-minute intervals.
Rank #3
- Super Matte Finish, Shock Resistant, 200M water resistance, LED light (Super illuminator), World time, Stopwatch, Countdown timer, 5 daily alarms, Hourly time signal, Hand shift feature
- Full auto-calendar, 12/24-hour format, Analog: 2 hands (hour, minute (hand moves every 20 seconds)), Digital: Hour, minute, second, pm, month, date, day, Approx. battery life: 5 years on CR2016
- Quartz Movement
- Case Diameter: 52.8mm
- Water resistant 200m (660ft): in general, suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports, but not diving
Other alarm methods Casio documents
- Module 5588: alarm entry is done with the crown. See https://support.casio.com/global/en/wat/manual/5588_en/UQIDSYdwbhchnp.html.
- Module 3568: alarm settings are reached through an alarm menu. See https://support.casio.com/global/en/wat/manual/3568_en/NHCXSYksnwgubu.html.
- Module 3459/3461: uses a different button arrangement from 5553. See https://support.casio.com/global/en/wat/manual/3461_en/VPCVSYjmprhcpa.html.
Do not assume that the number of alarms, the snooze behaviour or the indicators on your watch match the 5553 example. Use the guide for your own module.
Set World Time
World Time shows the time in a remote city. It does not replace your local setting: the Home City and its time must be correct first, because World Time is a separate display of other cities.
Rank #4
- Band Size: Mens-Standard
- Shock Resistant
- Auto LED Light with Afterglow
- Magnetic Resistant
Module 3537: selecting a city and its summer time
Casio’s guide is “Setting the World Time City, Module No. 3537” (https://support.casio.com/global/en/wat/manual/3537_en/AHNISYozazxoai.html).
- Enter World Time Mode.
- Press B or D to scroll to the city you want.
- To change summer time for that city, hold A for at least two seconds. The [DST] indicator appears when summer time is on.
The summer-time setting applies only to the selected city, so changing it for one city leaves the others unchanged. To select UTC (offset 0), press B and D together. UTC does not allow the DST setting to be changed or checked.
Best Value
- Sport Type: Scuba Diving
Module 3521 and module 5730
Module 3521 uses D to select the city, and a two-second hold of A toggles DST (see https://support.casio.com/global/en/wat/manual/3521_en/UQIDSYbcrgqhiv.html). Module 5730 uses D to display the city and the same two-second A hold for the general DST toggle. Because the button mapping is not identical across modules, confirm the buttons in the manual for your module before you press them.
DST controls compared by module
| Module | Setting being changed | Control | Summer-time options | Scope |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3545 | Home City | Hold A to enter, C to reach the summer-time setting, D to choose | Not stated in the guide for this module | Home City |
| 5502 | Home City | Pull crown to second click, press B to cycle | AT (AUTO), STD, DST | Home City |
| 3537 | World Time city | Hold A for at least two seconds | Summer time on or off, shown by [DST] | Selected city only |
| 3521 | World Time city | Hold A for two seconds | Toggle, per the Casio guide for this module | Selected city |
Troubleshooting common problems
These checks follow from the setting dependencies in the manuals above.
- Local time is wrong: check the Home City first, then its standard or summer-time setting, and only then the time and date.
- World Time is wrong but local time is correct: check which city is selected and whether that city’s DST setting matches the local rules for that place.
- The clock jumps by an hour unexpectedly on a module with AT (AUTO): this is the automatic setting working as designed. Change the Home City setting to STD or DST only if you want a fixed offset.
- The alarm does not sound: confirm you set the correct alarm, that it is turned on, and that the [ALM] indicator is showing. Indicators and activation steps differ by module.
- Your steps do not match the watch: the module number on the case back is the reliable guide. Switch to the matching Casio manual rather than trying the sequence from another model.
Scope of these instructions
These steps come from Casio’s official manuals as published on its global support site. The manuals do not claim to cover every G-Shock, and the examples above are module-specific rather than universal. Where a module is not listed here, use its own manual.
