On a Longines Spirit with a three-hand date display, unscrew the crown counter-clockwise, use position 3 to set the time and position 2 to correct the date, then push the crown in and screw it down. Longines cautions against quick date correction between 20:00 and 03:00. If your Spirit has additional functions, follow the manual for its exact reference.
Before you start: check the crown and watch functions
These instructions apply to a Spirit with a three-hand date display. Longines’ manual covers watches displaying hours, minutes, seconds and date; it does not establish that every Spirit variant has the same functions or setting procedure. Check the reference on your watch and use its matching manual if it has additional complications.

Some Longines models have a screw-in crown. The Spirit date model L3.811.4.93.6 is specified with one on Longines’ official product page. Before pulling the crown out, turn it counter-clockwise to unscrew it.
How to set the time
- Unscrew the crown. Turn it counter-clockwise until it releases.
- Stop the seconds hand at 60, then pull the crown to position 3. Turn the crown either way until the hands show the desired time.
- Synchronize the watch, then push the crown to position 1. Longines’ manual says: “Once the time is synchronised, push the crown back in to position 1.”
How to correct the date
Do not use the quick date correction between 20:00 and 03:00. Longines gives this caution in its official time-setting instructions: “Avoid any quick date correction between 20:00 and 03:00.”

- Make sure the watch is outside that interval.
- Pull the crown to position 2. Turn it forward to advance the date. Longines says the watch continues to run during the correction, so you do not need to reset the time for this step.
- Push the crown back to position 1.
Secure the crown and account for short months
After setting the time or date, push the crown fully to position 1 and screw it firmly down. Longines instructs that the crown be secured this way to maintain water resistance; do not assume the watch is water-resistant while the crown is unscrewed or not fully secured.
The date changes when the hour hand passes midnight. Because the display does not automatically account for months shorter than 31 days, Longines says to correct the date after each such month.
