To set a TAG Heuer Formula 1, use the crown positions and date-setting direction specified for your watch’s exact movement. Formula 1 models do not all use the same mechanism: the quartz chronograph, Calibre 16 automatic chronograph and other automatic models have different instructions. Check your reference or caliber in the paperwork or case information, then follow its matching TAG Heuer user guide before turning the crown.
Identify your Formula 1 movement first
Find the reference number or caliber in the watch documentation or case information and match it to the corresponding TAG Heuer guide. The number of crown positions and the way the date changes can vary by movement, so a sequence that applies to one Formula 1 may be wrong for another.

For example, TAG Heuer lists reference CBZ2082.BF0009 as a 44 mm Formula 1 automatic chronograph with a Calibre 16 movement, date function and screw-down crown. Its listed 48-hour power reserve is specific to that model, not the entire Formula 1 collection. See the official product listing and the Calibre 16 guide.

If the crown screws down, unscrew it until it reaches its operating position.
-
Pull the crown to the quick-date correction position and turn it to set the date. Do not assume the turning direction is the same on other movements.
-
Pull the crown farther to the time-correction position. Turn it in either direction to set the time; TAG Heuer’s guide says the seconds hand stops in this position.

Push the crown back to its operating position. If it is a screw-down crown, screw it fully in again.
How automatic and Calibre 16 instructions differ
Automatic models covered by the TH30/TH31 guide
TAG Heuer’s TH30/TH31 automatic watch guide describes manual winding in position 1, rapid date or day correction in position 2 on applicable models, and time correction in position 3. Some models have additional functions, so confirm the instructions for your particular watch before setting it.
Calibre 16 chronographs
The Calibre 16 guide describes normal position and manual winding, rapid date correction by turning the crown counter-clockwise, and time correction in the next position. That date direction differs from the quartz chronograph procedure; follow the guide for your caliber rather than applying a single direction across the collection.

Secure the crown after setting
Once the time and date are set, return the crown to its normal position. On a watch with a screw-down crown, screw it in correctly: TAG Heuer warns that this is necessary to maintain the watch’s water resistance. Do not treat the watch as water-resistant to its rated level while the crown is unscrewed.
