How to Set the Time and Date on a Tudor Black Bay 58

Set the time by unscrewing the crown, pulling it fully out, and turning the hands. Date setting depends on the exact Black Bay 58 reference.

First identify your Black Bay 58 configuration: the standard three-hand model has no date to set, while date-bearing and GMT versions require instructions for their specific reference. To set the time, unscrew the crown, pull it fully out, turn the hands to the correct time, then push the crown in and screw it completely down.

Check which Black Bay 58 you have

Look for a date window and note whether the watch is a GMT. Tudor’s current standard three-hand Black Bay 58 reference, M7939A1A0NU-0001, has no date display. Its time-setting procedure does not include a date adjustment.

Black Bay 58 variants are not interchangeable for setting purposes. Tudor also lists GMT models, which have a date and an independent 24-hour hand, along with other date-bearing references. Use the instructions for your exact reference, particularly if your watch is a GMT.

Set the time

  1. Unscrew the crown. Turn it until it releases from the case; do not pull while it is still screwed down.
  2. Pull the crown all the way out. This is the time-setting position.
  3. Turn the crown in either direction until the hands show the correct time. Tudor’s time-setting tutorial gives this same direction: “Turn the winding crown in either direction until the hands indicate the desired time.”
  4. Push the crown in and screw it fully down. Tudor says to tighten the screw-down crown after manipulation.

Set the date only if your specific model supports it

Tudor’s general date-setting tutorial describes a quick date-set function, but warns that only some models have one. If your Black Bay 58 has a date window and its instructions confirm this function:

  1. Unscrew the crown.
  2. Pull it out one notch.
  3. Turn it anti-clockwise until the desired date appears. Tudor’s published instruction is: “Pull the winding crown one notch and turn it anti-clockwise until the desired date displays.”
  4. Push the crown back in and screw it completely down.

Do not assume this sequence applies to every date-bearing Black Bay 58. Verify the instructions for the exact reference before using the date position, especially on a GMT. Tudor’s date-setting tutorial and time-setting tutorial explain the general procedures; the Black Bay 58 collection page helps distinguish configurations.

Why the crown must be secured

The Black Bay 58’s crown screws down. After setting the time or date, push it in and screw it all the way down; leaving it unscrewed can compromise the watch’s water resistance. Do not force a crown that will not turn or seat normally.
