For an Ebel Sport Classic Chronograph covered by Ebel’s quartz chronograph instructions, set the time with the crown in position C and the date in position B. First confirm your watch’s reference and movement: Sport Classic models include both quartz and automatic versions, and the quartz procedure should not be assumed to apply to an automatic chronograph.
Check the reference and movement first
The model name alone does not identify the setting procedure. Ebel’s product listings include Sport Classic reference 1216655 with a Swiss quartz movement and reference 1216708 with a Swiss automatic movement. Check the reference on your watch or its paperwork and use the matching instructions. The steps below apply to Ebel’s quartz chronograph instructions, which are also corroborated for Sport Classic references 1216387 and 1216429A by a reference-specific manual transcription.

Set the time on the quartz chronograph
- Pull the crown out to position C. The seconds hand stops.
- Turn the crown until the hands show the desired time.
- Push the crown back to position A to resume operation.
For more precise setting, Ebel’s instructions say to pull the crown when the seconds hand reaches 60, then push it back to position A precisely on the second. See Ebel’s official quartz chronograph operating instructions.
Set the date
- Pull the crown out to position B. The watch continues running.
- Turn the crown until the current date appears.
- Push the crown back to position A.
Avoid quick-setting during the date-change drive phase
Ebel warns: “From 21:00 to 24:00 (during the drive phase), you must set the date to the following day.” Do not quick-set the displayed date during this interval. If the watch is showing a time in that period, set the date to the following day as instructed, then advance the hands through midnight so the display reaches the correct day.

If your watch is automatic or the crown positions differ
Do not use the quartz steps as a substitute for the instructions for an automatic chronograph or a different reference. Ebel’s official listings establish that Sport Classic models can have different movement types, but the quartz manual does not establish how to set every automatic version. Consult the manual matching your exact reference or contact an authorized watch service provider if the movement or crown positions are uncertain.
