The Samsung Galaxy Fit2 (commonly model SM-R220) does not have a conventional user-accessible power-off procedure like a Galaxy Watch. If the band is malfunctioning, restart it. If you need to erase it, reset it. If you need it completely inactive, the practical fallback is to let its battery discharge—but that is not an ideal everyday or long-term storage method.
First make sure you have a Galaxy Fit2, not the older Gear Fit2 or Gear Fit2 Pro, because those devices use different controls.

Can you completely turn off a Galaxy Fit2?
Samsung does not document a normal “Power off” workflow for the Galaxy Fit2. The band is designed to remain powered while it has charge, unlike a smartwatch with a clearly documented shutdown command. Samsung’s Fit2 support and specifications page provides restart, reset, charging, and troubleshooting information, but not a conventional permanent shutdown procedure.

These actions turn off the display, reduce communication, or reduce power use; they do not shut down the Fit2 itself. The closest practical equivalent to complete inactivity is allowing the battery to run down until the band goes blank.
First, confirm that you have a Galaxy Fit2

How to restart the Galaxy Fit2
Restarting is the right first step for a temporary glitch, sluggish menus, or a band that is behaving unusually. It normally reboots the software without intentionally erasing your settings or stored information.

- Wake the Fit2 and display the watch face.
- Swipe downward to open Quick settings.
- Swipe across until you reach the three-dot More options menu.
- Tap the power-looking restart icon.
- Wait for the display to go dark and the band to boot again.
The icon may resemble a power symbol, but on the Fit2 this control is used for restarting rather than providing a normal permanent shutdown. Menu names and layouts can vary slightly with firmware and device configuration.
Samsung service guidance also documents a charger-assisted recovery method for supported versions:
- Place the Fit2 on its charging cradle.
- Leave it connected briefly so it has a reliable power source.
- Hold the touch or button area for at least seven seconds.
- Release it when the band vibrates, restarts, or shows the Samsung logo.
This procedure comes from Samsung service guidance and may not behave identically on every firmware revision. If it does nothing, charge the band longer and check the contacts before assuming the device has failed. See Samsung’s service instructions for the documented recovery and reset procedures.
How to reset the Galaxy Fit2
A reset is a factory reset, not a shutdown. It removes the Fit2’s settings and stored information and requires you to set up the band again. Back up or synchronize data through Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health first if the band still responds.

Reset from the Fit2
- Tap the Home area to wake the band.
- Swipe down to open Quick settings.
- Swipe right to the three-dot menu.
- Tap the Reset icon.
- Tap the checkmark to confirm.
Reset through Galaxy Wearable
- Open Galaxy Wearable on the connected phone.
- Tap About band.
- Tap Reset band.
- Tap Reset to confirm.
Samsung’s current reset guidance recommends backing up before resetting and unpairing the wearable when handing it to another person. Information already synchronized to Samsung Health may remain in the relevant account, but do not assume that unsynchronized data can be recovered after a reset.
Restart versus reset versus unpairing
| Action | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Restart | Reboots the operating system; normally preserves settings and data | A temporary software problem or unresponsive behavior |
| Reset | Returns the band to its default state and erases settings and stored information | Selling, transferring, or performing a last-resort software fix |
| Unpair | Removes the Bluetooth relationship with the phone | Stopping synchronization or preparing the band for another phone |
| Battery depletion | Stops operation because the battery is empty | Only when complete inactivity is essential and no shutdown command is available |
Do not choose Reset merely because you want the Fit2’s screen to go dark or its electronics to stop running.
If the Galaxy Fit2 is frozen or has a black screen
A blank display can mean a frozen system, an empty battery, poor charging contact, or an aging battery. Use this order rather than immediately performing a factory reset:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Charge the band. Put it on the original or a known-compatible charging cradle and allow time for charging.
- Check the contacts. The band and cradle should be clean, dry, and correctly aligned. Dirt, moisture, corrosion, or misalignment can prevent charging.
- Try the normal restart. If the display responds, use Quick settings, the three-dot menu, and the restart icon.
- Try charger-assisted recovery. While connected to the charger, hold the touch/button area for at least seven seconds where supported.
- Reset only when appropriate. Use a reset after backing up data if possible, particularly if the problem appears to be software-related.
- Seek service if it remains unresponsive. If a known-good power source and clean, dry contacts make no difference, the battery or hardware may be damaged or worn.
If the battery has reached zero, the display will remain blank until the Fit2 recovers enough charge. A fully depleted or aged battery may take time to show any response. Do not charge the band while its contacts are wet.

How to stop notifications without shutting down
If your real goal is privacy, fewer interruptions, or no phone alerts on your wrist, you do not need to power off the band.
- Disconnect or unpair the Fit2 in the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- Change notification permissions in Galaxy Wearable.
- Disable unnecessary display wake or wrist-motion activation.
- Use the Fit2’s available silent and notification controls.
Bluetooth disconnection stops or interrupts communication with the phone; it does not turn off the Fit2. The band can continue recording supported activity and health information while disconnected, although synchronization will wait until the connection is restored.

Samsung lists a 159 mAh battery and estimates up to 15 days of typical use or up to 21 days of low use. These are “up to” figures and depend on settings, features, usage, network conditions, and operating conditions. They are not guaranteed runtimes for every user.

- Reduce screen brightness.
- Shorten the screen timeout.
- Turn off unnecessary automatic screen wake or wrist-motion activation.
- Reduce frequent health measurements where the software permits.
- Limit notifications and vibration.
- Disconnect the band when phone synchronization is not needed.
- Keep it away from hot surfaces and direct sunlight.
For extended storage, charge it to a moderate level, disconnect it from the phone, and keep it in a cool, dry place. Do not treat repeated deep discharge as a storage routine. A several-year-old lithium-ion battery may have substantially less capacity than when new, so short runtime alone does not prove that the software is malfunctioning.

Preparing a Fit2 for sale, transfer, or repair
- Synchronize available activity and health data with Samsung Health and Galaxy Wearable.
- Back up the band where the app provides that option.
- Reset the band using the Fit2 or Galaxy Wearable.
- Unpair it from the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- Remove it from Galaxy Wearable if it remains listed.
- Wipe the exterior and include the charging cradle when transferring it.
Resetting and unpairing serve different purposes: reset erases the band’s local configuration and information, while unpairing removes its connection to your phone.
Frequently asked questions
Does turning off Bluetooth turn off the Galaxy Fit2?
No. It disconnects the band from the phone but does not power down the wearable.
Will the Fit2 turn on after I place it on the charger?
The band is designed to operate while charged, so charging can restore operation after the battery has emptied. A deeply depleted or aged battery may need time before the display responds.
Recommended Free Tools
Can I restart the Fit2 without my phone?
Yes. Use the Quick settings route on the band. If the screen is frozen, use the charger-assisted recovery method where supported.
Does resetting delete Samsung Health data?
Resetting removes information and settings stored on the band. Data that has already synchronized may remain in Samsung Health, but unsynchronized information may be lost.
What should I do if the screen stays black while charging?
Check alignment, clean and dry the charging contacts, try a known-good power source, allow more charging time, and then try charger-assisted recovery. If there is still no response, contact Samsung service.
Should I drain the battery before storing the Fit2?
No. Battery depletion is only the practical fallback when you need complete inactivity. For storage, charge it moderately, disconnect it, and keep it somewhere cool and dry.
