Start with the watch maker’s instructions, not a generic link-removal method. Titanium bracelets use different fasteners and clasp designs, so the right adjustment may be a clasp setting, a screw, a pin, or professional sizing. If the maker allows home adjustment, use the specified tool, protect finished surfaces, and stop if anything resists or the mechanism is unclear. For Suunto 9 Peak owners, Suunto specifically recommends having a jeweler or other professional adjust the titanium bracelet.
Identify the adjustment system before touching the bracelet
“Titanium” describes the bracelet material, not how it comes apart. First identify the exact watch model and check its manual or official support page. Confirm whether the fit is adjusted at the clasp or by removing links, and, if links come out, whether they use screws, pins, or another system.

Manufacturer instructions are model-specific. For example, TUDOR’s Pelagos tutorial describes three adjustment positions on that watch’s auto-adjustable clasp. It is not a general procedure for other titanium bracelets. Other official instructions cover different arrangements, including removable links and screw-bars and arrow-marked pins on a Withings ScanWatch bracelet.

Choose between clasp adjustment, home sizing, and professional help
| Option | When it may suit | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in clasp adjustment | The watch maker documents a micro-adjustment or sliding clasp for your model. | Use only that model’s instructions. TUDOR’s Pelagos clasp is one specific example, not a universal titanium-bracelet design. TUDOR tutorial |
| Home link adjustment | The maker permits it, you can identify the fastener, and you have the tool specified for that bracelet. | Methods differ by construction, and the wrong tool or technique can damage the bracelet. Longines guidance; Withings instructions |
| Jeweler, watchmaker, or authorized service | The maker recommends professional adjustment, the mechanism is unfamiliar, or you prefer not to risk damaging the watch. | Service requirements and availability vary by watch and location. Suunto guidance; Garmin manual |
Protect the bracelet if the maker permits DIY adjustment
- Check whether home adjustment is appropriate. Follow the watch maker’s recommendation and consider the watch’s value and warranty terms. Suunto warns that unsuitable tools or methods can damage the Suunto 9 Peak bracelet, and says such damage is not covered by its limited warranty; that policy is specific to that product.
- Use the tool specified for the fastener. Do not choose a tool simply because it is sold as a watch link-removal kit. In its guidance for the bracelet types it covers, Longines describes using a bracelet holder and pin pusher; for screw heads, it says the driver should fill the head to help prevent marring.
- Stabilize and protect the work area. Work on a controlled surface. Longines mentions a soft cloth and low-tack tape to protect polished areas in its instructions. These are precautions from that guidance, not a universal sizing procedure for every titanium bracelet.
- Follow direction marks only when the bracelet has them. Withings tells ScanWatch owners to work only on arrow-marked links and describes using the supplied hammer, ribbed block, and pin push. Do not apply that method to an unmarked bracelet or a different watch.
- Stop if the fastener resists or the construction is uncertain. Do not increase force or improvise with another tool. Have a jeweler, watchmaker, or the maker’s authorized service provider identify the mechanism.
- Check the finished adjustment before wearing the watch. Follow the maker’s reassembly instructions and confirm that pins or screws are secure. If the bracelet design allows, Garmin recommends removing an equal number of links from each side of the clasp to help keep the watch centered; follow your own watch’s instructions if they specify another arrangement.
When the manufacturer recommends a professional
Suunto’s advice is explicit for the Suunto 9 Peak: “Due to the high risk of damaging the parts of the bracelet while adjusting the length, Suunto strongly recommends you take your watch to a jeweler or other professional to adjust the size of the titanium bracelet.” Garmin also recommends professional adjustment for the metal bracelet described in its manual. These are product-specific recommendations, not a rule that every titanium bracelet must be sized by a professional.
