The most straightforward way to tailor the NOMOS Club Sport Neomatik 39 Tabac is to swap its steel bracelet for a strap that changes the watch’s feel without competing with its brown sunburst dial. In a November 11, 2024 Fratello article, Lex Stolk chose gray nubuck: he found it softened the dial’s tobacco-brown tone and brought out purple hints. That is one wearer’s styling preference, not a universal rule—but the model’s 20 mm lug width gives you a useful starting point when considering alternatives.
Why change the bracelet?
The reference 760 is supplied on a stainless-steel Club Sport bracelet with alternating satin and polished finishes. NOMOS describes it as having a safety folding clasp and quick-change spring bars. Stolk removed it because he found the polished center links too shiny and visually distracting. As he put it: “I don’t think the Oyster-style bracelet does the Club Sport any favors; it’s a bit too shiny.” That reaction is subjective; the bracelet’s mix of finishes is an official design detail, while whether it suits your taste is personal.
How the dial can shape your strap choice
NOMOS describes the reference 760’s dial as dark-brown with a galvanized sunburst finish. Stolk observed orange, purple, and gray hues appearing as the light changed. His account suggests a practical styling approach: choose a strap that either quiets the dial or deliberately picks up one of its shifting colors, rather than assuming the brown will look identical in every setting.
Why gray nubuck worked for Stolk
Stolk chose a gray nubuck strap, saying its muted color softened the brown and emphasized purple notes in the dial. Nubuck also gives the watch a less reflective, more relaxed look than a polished-link bracelet. Those are his impressions, not a tested claim that gray or nubuck is the best match for every wearer.

He also suggested subdued gray, brown, forest green, or blue as colors that can coordinate with clothing, and considered the watch suitable for both informal and formal settings. Treat those as useful ideas to try, not fixed rules: strap material, finish, and the clothes you wear will all affect the overall impression.
What size and fit to check
NOMOS lists a 20 mm lug width for reference 760. Its bracelet uses quick-change spring bars, and the official page also lists a 20 mm blue-black woven textile strap configuration. These details establish the lug width and the watch’s own attachment approach, but do not prove that every third-party 20 mm strap will fit correctly.

- Check that the strap is 20 mm wide at the lugs.
- Confirm its spring-bar or quick-release design is compatible with the watch; NOMOS specifies quick-change spring bars for the bracelet.
- Check the strap’s end shape and clearance around the case before buying, especially for a rigid or unusually shaped strap.
- Consider how the material and color change the watch’s character: nubuck or woven textile reads differently from polished steel, regardless of width.
Reference 760: the details that matter when choosing
Make sure you are looking at reference 760 if you want the display-back version. NOMOS identifies reference 760’s back as sapphire crystal; reference 759 has a steel back. The official 760 page lists these specifications:
| Specification | NOMOS Club Sport Neomatik 39 Tabac, reference 760 |
|---|---|
| Case | Stainless steel |
| Diameter | 39.5 mm |
| Height | 8.5 mm |
| Lug-to-lug | 49.5 mm |
| Lug width | 20 mm |
| Water resistance | 20 atm |
| Crystal | Sapphire front crystal with anti-reflective coating on its inner side; sapphire crystal case back |

| Movement | Automatic DUW 3001; 3.2 mm movement height; 28.8 mm diameter; up to 43 hours of power reserve; 27 jewels |
The listed power reserve is “up to” 43 hours. NOMOS also says the bracelet length can be adjusted to the wearer, so a strap swap is not the only way to change how the watch wears.

How the 39 mm line fits the collection
NOMOS introduced the Club Sport neomatik 39 models in tabac, ember, and smoke in 2023. The brand said the 39 mm size filled a gap between its 37 mm and 42 mm models. That release context helps explain the model’s size, but it does not determine whether a bracelet or strap will feel right on your wrist.
