Trilobe displays the time with three rotating rings and fixed indicators: the largest ring shows hours, the middle ring shows minutes, and the smallest shows seconds. To read the watch, find each indicator and note the value on its corresponding moving ring.
How do you read a Trilobe watch?
- Hours: Read the value on the largest ring beside its fixed indicator.
- Minutes: Read the middle ring at its fixed indicator.
- Seconds: Read the smallest ring at its fixed indicator.
Each ring carries a separate time scale, so hours, minutes, and seconds are displayed independently rather than together on a conventional numbered dial. The rings move past their indicators; the indicators themselves remain fixed. Trilobe’s Les Matinaux collection description presents the three elements as representing the current hours, minutes, and seconds, while the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève description of Les Matinaux likewise describes fixed indicators pointing to moving rings.

Do the Trilobe discs move?
Yes. The display uses physical, rotating eccentric rings carrying the time scales; it is a mechanical display, not a digital readout. The fixed indicators provide the reference points for reading each ring. A search result for the Les Matinaux user manual says the rings rotate counterclockwise, but the linked manual could not be verified here, so the direction is not needed to read the time and is best treated cautiously.

The raised construction of Une Folle Journée gives the display a more open, sculptural appearance; Les Matinaux presents the rings as a flatter arrangement across the dial. The technical figures above are published by Trilobe as collection specifications, not independent performance measurements.
