Seiko’s “royal purple” anniversary watches are a nine-model limited-edition collection, not one watch with color variations. Seiko calls the theme Edo purple and pairs it with gold-colored accents. The models span six Seiko families, with a planned release date of October 9, 2026.
What Seiko means by “royal purple”
“Royal purple” is a visual shorthand for the headline; Seiko’s official name for the color theme is Edo purple, or Edo Murasaki. Seiko describes it as linking tradition passed from Edo to Tokyo with the capital’s continuing creativity. The gold-colored details are presented as symbols of success and prosperity. Seiko’s August 6, 2026 announcement introduces the collection as the third series of its 145th-anniversary limited editions.

The purple treatment is not simply a shared dial color applied to otherwise identical watches. The collection combines different families, movements, functions, case materials and sizes.

Seiko’s Japanese announcement lists the following references. Japanese suggested retail prices and edition quantities are shown where stated; prices are specific to Japan and are not global price guidance. “Worldwide” quantities describe the announced global edition, not retailer stock.

Model names, Japan prices and Japan allocations are from Seiko’s Japanese announcement. Worldwide edition quantities for the Alpinist, Cocktail Time, Astron HAB011 and digital quartz model are also listed on official product pages: HBC006, HCB006, HAB011 and HFL001. Seiko’s US pages list the HDB003 worldwide edition as 9,999: HDB003.
How the designs and functions differ
Mechanical and sports-watch options
The Prospex Alpinist HBC006J and Seiko 5 Sports HDB003J are distinct takes on sporty everyday watches. Seiko gives the Alpinist a 6R55 automatic movement, approximately 72-hour power reserve, 39.5 mm diameter and 20-bar water resistance. Its dial’s radial pattern is described as inspired by the Edo Murasaki cocktail, with gold accents suggesting gold leaf. The SKX-based HDB003 is the largest announced worldwide edition among the models with a confirmed worldwide count: 9,999 pieces.

Solar and travel-focused Astron models
The Astron range includes the GPS Solar Dual Time Chronograph HAB011J and two Solar Radio Wave references, HAD003J and HAC003J. The HAB011 is titanium and has a 2,000-piece worldwide edition, with 700 allocated to Japan. Seiko lists HAD003J and HAC003J as Japan-only limited editions in its Japanese release; the HAC003 is the smaller 36 mm model. These are different Astron configurations, not merely alternate case sizes of one specification.

Cocktail Time and other dressier designs
The Presage HCB006J has the collection’s clearest named cocktail connection. Seiko says its dial’s radial pattern expresses the Edo Murasaki cocktail, created with Hisashi Kishi, owner of Tokyo’s STAR BAR. Its logo and GMT hand are gold-colored. The US product page specifies a 4R34 automatic movement with manual winding, approximately 41-hour power reserve, 24-hour hand, 40.5 mm diameter, 12.8 mm thickness and 5-bar water resistance.

The Cocktail Time is not the only model with the cocktail-inspired radial dial: Seiko also describes that inspiration for the Alpinist HBC006J. At the other end of the collection, the Lukia Grow combines a 27.9 mm titanium case with 11 lab-grown diamonds, while the Seiko Selection HFL001P uses digital quartz and a black-coated steel case and bracelet.

Seiko announced the nine watches on August 6, 2026, and set October 9, 2026 as the planned release date. Its Japanese announcement gives suggested retail prices ranging from ¥60,500 to ¥330,000. Those figures refer to the Japanese market; a currency conversion would not establish a local selling price elsewhere.

For US readers, Seiko’s official pages list the Seiko 5 Sports HDB003 at USD 450 and the Presage Cocktail Time HCB006 at USD 625. Those are US-market listings, not universal prices. Product pages and planned release dates do not confirm present stock at a retailer or marketplace, and limited-edition quantities do not indicate how many watches remain available.
