Its rounded-square case, upper-right rotating crown and secondary button made the comparison understandable. But the resemblance was mainly visual: the Watch Fit 3 is a cross-platform fitness smartwatch with much longer battery life, not an Apple Watch equivalent in apps, health features, safety tools or iPhone integration.
The leaked renders showed a major redesign
Images circulated on April 19 and were reported on April 20, 2024, ahead of Huawei’s official announcement. The first renders were attributed to Roland Quandt, while later images showing additional colours and strap combinations were circulated under Evan Blass’s name. At that stage, they were still leaked images, so the Watch Fit 3’s final design and specifications had not been confirmed by Huawei.

The images suggested a significant departure from the more elongated rectangular Watch Fit 2. Instead, the Watch Fit 3 appeared to use a rounded-rectangle case with a squarer display, a rotating crown high on the right side and a second control beneath it. That combination immediately evoked the Apple Watch.

The original leak coverage described the watch as difficult to distinguish from an Apple Watch at a glance, but “identical” would be too strong. The renders showed noticeably thicker bezels and differences in the case finish. The similarity was best understood as a shared visual language and control arrangement—not evidence that Huawei used Apple software or replicated the Apple Watch’s internal hardware.

The initial leak report and subsequent render coverage are useful snapshots of what was known before launch.
Huawei confirmed the design on May 7, 2024
The Watch Fit 3 was not a concept or fan-made render that disappeared. Huawei officially launched it at an international product event in Dubai on May 7, 2024. The retail product retained the central elements that triggered the Apple Watch comparisons: the rounded-square body, upper-right crown and lower side button.
That closed the most important loop in the story. The renders were broadly accurate about the watch’s design direction, although leaked imagery could not establish final regional configurations, software, pricing or every available feature.
By June 2024, comparisons generally positioned the Watch Fit 3 as a lower-priced or entry-level alternative to the Apple Watch rather than a direct functional replacement. In 2026, it should be treated as an older Fit-series model: Huawei has since moved on to the Watch Fit 4 and Watch Fit 5 generations, so buyers should compare any discounted Fit 3 with newer hardware before purchasing.

Huawei’s official specifications confirm a lightweight aluminium watch with a large AMOLED screen and multiday battery claims:

These are Huawei’s published specifications and battery estimates, not a guarantee of identical results for every owner. Exercise, GPS use, calls, notifications, screen brightness, health monitoring and always-on display settings all affect endurance. The headline 10-day figure is a maximum claim; the more useful everyday reference is Huawei’s seven-day typical estimate, while always-on display use reduces the claim to four days. What 5 ATM means
5 ATM water resistance is suitable for ordinary shallow-water activities such as swimming under appropriate conditions. It does not mean the watch is suitable for diving or every type of water exposure. Huawei warns against diving, hot showers, saunas, hot springs and high-speed water. Leather and metal straps may also be unsuitable for swimming or heavy perspiration.

The design comparison is fair; the feature comparison needs more care. The two watches occupy different software and ecosystem categories.

Apple’s current U.S. Watch SE 3 specifications list up to 18 hours of normal use, while Apple’s buying page lists a $249 starting price for GPS models. Those figures are current reference points rather than a like-for-like 2024 launch comparison, and the manufacturers test battery life under different conditions.

The Watch Fit 3 can pair with an iPhone, but compatibility is not the same as full iPhone integration. A user may receive notifications, use fitness features and make Bluetooth calls, yet still miss the tight relationship between Apple Watch, iPhone, Apple Pay, Siri, watchOS applications and Apple’s broader health and safety services.
It is also important not to infer capability from the controls. A rotating crown and side button can make navigation feel familiar, but they do not provide the same software, sensors, emergency functions, cellular independence or third-party app support as an Apple Watch. Huawei confirms an optical heart-rate sensor, motion sensors, an ambient light sensor and exercise- and sleep-related functions; that should not be read as confirmation of Apple’s complete health and safety stack or equivalent clinical performance.
The stronger case for the Watch Fit 3 is battery life and platform flexibility. Android users cannot use an Apple Watch at all, and iPhone users who dislike daily charging may prefer Huawei’s multiday design. The trade-off is a less mature smartwatch ecosystem and weaker integration with Apple services.

Is the Huawei Watch Fit 3 an Apple Watch clone?
“Clone” is a defensible reaction to the renders’ appearance, but it is not a precise technical description or a legal conclusion. Rectangular smartwatches existed before this product, and a rounded-square case by itself does not establish copying.
The strongest resemblance came from the combination of several details: the squarer body, the crown in the upper-right position, the secondary side control and the way the watch was presented with interchangeable straps. Those details made the Watch Fit 3 look unusually Apple-like in product images. Thicker bezels, different finishing, Huawei’s own software and the watch’s fitness-focused positioning distinguish it from an Apple Watch once the comparison moves beyond a quick glance.
Should you buy the Watch Fit 3 in 2026?
That depends more on your phone and priorities than on the case design.

It delivers the Apple Watch-like silhouette, works across Android and iOS, and has a much longer stated battery interval.
- Be cautious if you use an iPhone. Pairing is possible, but it does not reproduce Apple Watch integration, Apple Pay, the watchOS app ecosystem or Apple’s full safety feature set.
- Consider it for fitness tracking rather than a full smartwatch experience. The AMOLED display, exercise features, health sensors, Bluetooth calling and long battery claim make it more capable than a basic fitness band.
- Compare newer Huawei models before buying. The Fit 3 is an older generation in 2026, and a newer Watch Fit 4 or Fit 5 may offer better long-term value or support at a similar street price.
Huawei’s official page lists a defined security-support period ending May 20, 2026. That date alone does not prove that every software update stopped afterward, but it is another reason to check the exact regional support position and current price before buying an older unit.
The verdict
The April 2024 renders were genuine pre-launch imagery, and they accurately previewed a Huawei watch with a distinctly Apple-like silhouette and control layout. The final Watch Fit 3 therefore deserved the visual comparison—but not the assumption that it was an Apple Watch in disguise.
Its real proposition was simpler: Apple-inspired styling, Android and iOS compatibility, fitness features and substantially longer advertised battery life, traded against a smaller app ecosystem and less complete iPhone, health and safety integration.
