The HYT H1 Colorblock was a 2016, three-color limited edition of HYT’s fluid-display H1, made in just 10 pieces per color. Its defining feature is a moving boundary between two liquids that indicates the hour; the red, yellow, and blue versions put a different visual emphasis on the same large titanium watch. In SJX Watches’ hands-on assessment, yellow was the most striking, red the most muted, and blue the most restrained.

What was the HYT H1 Colorblock?

HYT presented the H1 Colorblock in 2016 as a special edition marking the brand’s third anniversary. Contemporary reports say the watch came in red, yellow, or blue, with 10 watches made in each color. It was a variant of the H1, not a separate watch with a different time display.

The three versions shared a gunmetal-coated titanium case measuring 48.8 mm across and 17.9 mm thick. Colored chapter rings and a matching fabric strap carried each version’s color into the rest of the design. Those dimensions make it a conspicuously large, thick watch; the strong visual effect is part of the proposition, rather than a discreet alternative to a conventional H1. How does the fluid hour display work?

Instead of indicating hours with a conventional hand, the H1 uses a capillary—a narrow tube—around the edge of the dial. Clear liquid and opaque black liquid meet inside it; the boundary between them, called the meniscus, points to the current hour. The changing position of that boundary makes the passage of time visible at a glance.

#1 Best Overall
Casio G-Shock Rainbow Brick Wall GM-2100RW-1A Analog-Digital Octagonal Watch
  • Shock-Resistant: G-SHOCK's signature shock-resistant construction protects the watch from impact, vibration, and centrifugal force.
  • Water Resistance: Rated at 200 meters (660 feet) water resistance, suitable for recreational swimming and snorkeling.
  • Resin Case and Band: Durable resin case (49.3 × 44.4 × 11.8 mm) and adjustable resin band ensure a secure and comfortable fit.
  • Functions: Includes world time, stopwatch, countdown timer, 5 daily alarms, and auto calendar.

The manually wound HYT Calibre 101 uses twin bellows at six o’clock to move the liquids through the capillary. When the display completes its cycle, the meniscus quickly returns to zero in a retrograde motion, ready to begin again. The hour display is therefore fluidic, while the rest of the watch uses more familiar mechanical indications.

  • Minutes are shown on a subdial at 12 o’clock.
  • Seconds are shown by a fan-shaped wheel at 9 o’clock.
  • A scale at 3 o’clock indicates the power reserve.
  • A partial Super-LumiNova coating beneath the capillary makes the display glow green in darkness.

SJX Watches describes this arrangement in its 2016 hands-on review: the H1 Colorblock review.

What is different between the red, yellow, and blue versions?

The color is the key choice: it appears on the hour and minute chapter rings and on the fabric strap, while the case and basic display remain shared. The 2016 SJX reviewer characterized yellow as the most striking, red as muted, and blue as the most restrained. That is one reviewer’s visual judgment, not an objective ranking; the best fit depends on whether you want the color to dominate or recede.

Version Reported visual character Edition size
Yellow Most striking, according to SJX Watches’ 2016 reviewer 10 pieces, reported by SJX Watches and Haute Time in 2016
Red Muted, according to SJX Watches’ 2016 reviewer 10 pieces, reported by SJX Watches and Haute Time in 2016
Blue Most restrained, according to SJX Watches’ 2016 reviewer 10 pieces, reported by SJX Watches and Haute Time in 2016

All three versions share the reported 48.8 mm by 17.9 mm gunmetal-coated titanium case and matching-color strap. The color descriptions and edition counts come from SJX Watches and Haute Time, both reporting on the 2016 release.

What were the specifications and launch price?

The figures below are specifications reported by contemporary coverage of the 2016 watch, not the result of independent testing. Haute Time reported the water-resistance figure; the other listed core specifications were reported by both Haute Time and SJX Watches.

Specification Reported detail
Movement Manually wound HYT Calibre 101
Power reserve 65 hours
Frequency 28,800 vibrations per hour, reported by Haute Time in 2016
Case 48.8 mm diameter; 17.9 mm thick; titanium with gunmetal PVD coating
Water resistance 100 meters, reported by Haute Time in 2016
Launch price CHF 39,000 in 2016; Haute Time reported CHF 39,000 and SJX Watches reported SFr39,000

The CHF 39,000 figure is the reported launch price, not a current retail price or resale valuation. The dimensions and movement details underscore the H1 Colorblock’s character: it pairs a technically unusual hour indication with a substantial wrist presence and a high-end launch price. Specification and price figures were reported by SJX Watches and Haute Time in 2016.
