Is the case actually made with solar-forged recycled steel?
GPHG describes the case as 100% recycled stainless steel remelted using solar-furnace energy. ID Genève says its process uses local steel waste associated with watchmaking and medical-industry component production: the waste is sorted and remelted in a solar furnace. The brand also says the process is traceable and uses no ore or added raw material. What do ID Genève’s environmental figures mean?
The brand publishes two different comparisons, and they do not have the same boundary. On its Circular S page, ID Genève compares the steel: 0.041 kg CO2 equivalent for its solar-remelted steel against 6.8 kg CO2 equivalent for conventional steel, describing the former as 165 times lower. The brand’s solar-steel story attributes that comparison to Quantis, but the cited pages do not provide a publication year or enough assessment methodology to independently evaluate the result. It is a steel-level comparison, not a claim that the complete watch has 165 times lower impact. The collection page and the solar-steel page give the brand’s figures and attribution.
Separately, ID Genève’s Impact Journey page says the Circular S collection generates 54% fewer emissions than an equivalent conventional watch and that 8.6% of materials used in the watches are virgin materials. These are whole-watch and material figures reported by the brand; the page does not provide enough methodological detail to independently assess the comparison basis. What is ownership and servicing like?
GPHG says Circular Coins received with an ID watch can be exchanged for services such as movement oiling or a new strap. Its listing does not specify the current redemption value, terms or whether aftermarket straps are compatible. GPHG’s model listing describes the coin benefit.
