The ZRC Grands Fonds Heterium is a 41.5 mm mechanical diver with a navy-to-black gradient dial, a crown at 6 o’clock and a manufacturer-stated 1,000 m water-resistance rating. ZRC offers it with either a steel bracelet or an FKM rubber strap. Published dive observations describe strong underwater legibility, but also flag practical trade-offs: the bracelet can be awkward to fasten alone, and the bezel may be hard to operate with gloves.
What is the ZRC Grands Fonds Heterium?
The Heterium is a modern model in ZRC’s Grands Fonds dive-watch line. Its distinguishing features include a blue-to-black gradient dial and a screw-down crown positioned at 6 o’clock rather than the more familiar 3 o’clock. The two configurations documented by ZRC are the HETERIUM-METAL GF421613 and HETERIUM-RUBBER GF421618.
Monochrome Watches places the model in the context of the Grands Fonds line’s history: it reports that ZRC was founded in Geneva in 1904, later developed waterproof cases, and supplied Grands Fonds watches to French Naval divers from 1958 through 1995. The line was relaunched in 2018. This account is Monochrome’s historical summary; it is not independently corroborated here.
How does the 6 o’clock crown work?
ZRC describes the crown as screw-down, with a reversed pitch, and part of its Crown Protection System. The brand says the bracelet can only be closed when the crown is fully screwed down: “Its bracelet can only be closed if the crown at 6 o’clock is perfectly screwed down.” This is ZRC’s stated design behavior, not a claim of independent testing.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The crown’s position and the bracelet closure are therefore linked in the manufacturer’s design. When evaluating the metal configuration, consider whether this specific fastening arrangement suits how you put on and remove a watch; the published review also reports that the bracelet can be difficult to put on without assistance.

What is it like to dive with?
In a review dated 21 March 2025, Derek Haager of Monochrome Watches said he wore the Heterium on several shipwreck and reef dives in south Florida. He reported that the bezel was easy to set and had a satisfying action, but its thin profile could be difficult to articulate while wearing gloves. He also described the dial and lume as highly legible underwater: “Underwater the watch is highly legible due to the slightly reflective nature of the dial and the copious amounts of lume.” These are Haager’s observations from his dives, not independent verification or a separate test.

Haager found both bracelet and rubber-strap versions comfortable. He preferred the bracelet, but said it was difficult to put on without assistance; for frequent diving, that led him to favor the rubber strap. That practical distinction may matter more to a prospective wearer than the shared case and movement specifications.
What the water-resistance rating does—and does not—establish
ZRC states that both versions are guaranteed water-resistant to 1,000 m and tested to 1,500 m. Those figures describe the manufacturer’s stated specification; the available product information does not establish independent verification of the test or ISO 6425 certification. Nor should the rating be read as evidence that the watch has a chronometer certification. The official product pages do not state one.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
For day-to-day buying decisions, distinguish the advertised depth rating from the specific usability points in Haager’s account: underwater legibility was a strength in his dives, while gloved bezel operation was less straightforward. Neither the review nor the product page establishes performance for every wearer or diving condition.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Heterium a good dive watch?
On its documented specifications, the Heterium is built around serious dive-watch features: a unidirectional timing bezel, screw-down crown, sapphire crystal and a manufacturer-stated 1,000 m guarantee. Haager’s published south Florida dives provide favorable firsthand observations about legibility and comfort, alongside useful caveats about the bezel with gloves and the metal bracelet’s fastening convenience.

The best-supported choice between the two references is therefore a fit and fastening decision. Choose the metal version if you want the steel bracelet and its expansion diver link; choose the rubber version if the pin-buckle strap better suits how you gear up or dive. The available evidence does not establish comparative durability, long-term accuracy, service costs or an advantage over specific competing watches.
