For a short-film-focused experience featuring experimental work and emerging filmmakers, look at Objectifs Short Film Festival. Singapore Film Society (SFS) is a year-round way to find screenings and festival events, rather than a direct match for either annual festival.
How the three options differ
| Option | What it offers | 2026 timing | Best fit | Ticket information |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) | Broad international programme with an emphasis on Asian cinema and multiple sections | 21 October–1 November | Viewers who want to explore films across countries, forms and curated sections | Tickets, passes and Rush Queue access are handled through SGIFF.com; an account is required to book. Check SGIFF ticketing. |
| Objectifs Short Film Festival | A dedicated short-film programme that foregrounds experimentation and emerging filmmakers | 22–31 October at Objectifs Chapel Gallery and Filmhouse | Viewers looking for short films and focused programmes by newer filmmakers | The 2026 page lists $10 for a single screening, $25 for a focus programme and $40 for a festival pass. The pass excludes the focus programme. Check Objectifs’ festival page. |
| Singapore Film Society (SFS) | Year-round screenings, festival events and a membership community | Year-round; consult its current calendar | Viewers seeking recurring screenings and a route to discover events beyond festival weeks | Membership is advertised from $10+ monthly, with discounts and other perks; check current terms. See SFS’s current information. |
The first two are the direct annual-festival comparison. SFS is useful for ongoing discovery, but its broader year-round calendar and membership model make it a different kind of option.

What to expect at SGIFF
SGIFF’s 37th edition is scheduled for 21 October–1 November 2026. Its official programme describes more than 100 films from over 50 countries, with sections that include the Asian Feature Film Competition, Junior Explorers for young audiences, and Undercurrent, which includes an expanded live-performance line-up. SGIFF says it was founded in 1987 and is Singapore’s largest and longest-running film event, focused on groundbreaking Asian cinema. Explore SGIFF and browse its 2026 programme.
The range of sections makes SGIFF a good starting point if you do not have one narrowly defined type of film in mind. Use the programme descriptions to choose between competition titles, audience-specific screenings and work that crosses film with live performance.

Objectifs’ inaugural Short Film Festival runs 22–31 October 2026 at Objectifs Chapel Gallery and Filmhouse. Its framing treats short films as a space for experimentation. The FreshTake! programme features first-time and early-stage filmmakers, including students, recent graduates and young filmmakers. The festival’s 2026 tagline is “Normal Is An Illusion.” See the festival programme and ticket details.
Choose Objectifs when you want a programme built around short films rather than a mixed-format festival browse. Check each listing to see what a focus programme includes and whether the festival pass suits your plans; the listed pass does not include the focus programme.

Can you attend both in 2026?
Yes, potentially. The date ranges overlap: SGIFF runs 21 October–1 November, while Objectifs runs 22–31 October. They are not automatically mutually exclusive, but the dates alone do not show whether particular screenings conflict. Compare individual start times and venues in the live programmes before booking, and allow time to travel between locations.
How to choose and plan your screenings
- Choose by programme, not just festival name. Browse SGIFF if you want films across countries and curated sections; inspect Objectifs’ individual listings if you are seeking short films, experimentation or early-career voices.
- Check the actual screening listing. Confirm the date, start time, venue, age rating and ticket availability on the festival’s official page before buying or travelling.
- Compare ticket terms. SGIFF requires an account for booking through its ticketing system. Objectifs’ listed 2026 prices are $10 for a single screening, $25 for a focus programme and $40 for a festival pass, with the focus programme excluded from the pass.
- Plan around the venues. If attending events at both festivals, check the location and travel time for every screening rather than assuming one venue or a convenient transfer.
Schedules, ratings, prices and ticket availability can change, so verify current details on the official festival pages. For screenings outside October, consult SFS’s current calendar; weigh the advertised membership terms against how often you expect to attend.
